Kid sized safety gear

I did a search and was surprised that there weren’t several threads on the subject. I have two grandsons and two grand daughters. Three, five and six. The one year only watches so far. The five year old granddaughter helped with the construction of the outdoor steps/low deck last fall at her house. She showed considerable dexterity drilling pilot holes and driving screws with the impact driver. The regular sized head phone ear protectors were really cumbersome.

Recently, My three year old was enjoying breaking up the old mortar from the stone wall we are repairing, but my smallest size of safety glasses didn’t fit at all so we put on the “kid” sunglasses. These at least fit his nose and ear spacing.

So, what can you all recommend as a source for our young and upcoming GJ members? Small size gloves, ear protection, safety glasses, work boots and clothing? What stores and brands have you been pleased with?

Thanks!

You might check the sporting good store for safety glasses. The glasses supplied with small air rifles such as Crossman or Daisy fit my daughter really well when she was small so they may sell them separately. I see kids at the racetrack allot wearing smaller than normal ear muffs so I know they are available. You may check amazon for both, it is amazing what you can find there.

Here is what I bought for my 6 and 8 year old. They fit great and also use them when we play with their NERF guns.

+1 I bought a set of a dozen child sized safety glasses. They're out there.

I also found a pair of XS kevlar cut resistant gloves that my older one uses for whittling.

edit:
Years ago, I picked up a kid sized set of Peltor earmuffs. They're pretty good, but I've since found something much better. Harbor Freight's folding earmuffs. They fit adult sized heads, but also compress down perfectly to fit children.

I’m surprised that as an American you are unaware that the stores that sell kid size guns also sell kid size eye and ear protection.

I use the foam earplugs for my 6 year old when doing something loud or the cheapo HF ear muffs. I think they work just as well as my much more expensive Peltor earmuffs. My son calls them ear defenders. He picked that up from Bob the Builder. I guess that's how they say in the Queen's English. He prefers the earmuffs, but when I'm cutting his hair with the vacuum attachment, then we have to use the earplugs.
We have a pair of goggles from the Lowe's kids workshop that he uses for eye protection. I never thought about the outdoors stores having the glasses style. He'd probably prefer those.

They don't want you using kids for slave labor so they just don't make safety gear for kids I guess LOL.

Please, Timberland makes boots starting in baby sizes.

Anyway, what good are kids for other than for slave labor? ;)

Yeah, I remember when my kids watched Bob. And the funny words they picked up from Thomas.

As for the HF earmuffs, the cheapest ones they sell do not fit children well. The band just doesn't move enough to sit on their head (I find the cups to be painful as well):

But the folding pair I linked above will fit down to infant size, is comfortable, and is quite well made:

It is a touch heavier than the Peltor kids earmuffs, but its also a fraction of the price, AND I can use them too, since it opens up to adult sizes. Which means that my kids can see me using the same safety gear as them. Though to be fair, I more often wear Peltor earmuffs.

From what I see of the folks around here wearing Timberlands, they aren't meant for actual WORK anymore......

Children are a lot like Build-A-Bear. Lots of fun to make, but WTF do you do with them after you're done?

Great suggestions! The safety glasses and child size headphones look great . I had taken our peltor headset for my grand daughter to use , but they are huge on her even though they are the pair my wife prefers.
Love the boots! Are they reasonably priced?

Home Depot has a toy kit with tools in it.
I have a Stanley jr. toy kit with safety glasses in it. It is for ages 5+.
A kid could wear a bike helmet for possible falling objects.
Foam ear plugs come in many sizes.

I bought a set of Ear Pro over the earmuffs in pink for my 4 year old on Amazon. Bought them specifically for Monster Jam, but I'm sure once I start working on my Mustang again, she will need to wear them.

On a side note, first time we put them on her, me and my wife played a joke on her by not making any sound when we talked. She couldn't figure out how the earmuffs cut 100% of the sound and thought they were magic. Yeah... Yeah... parents of the year :)

For glasses, I ordered a box of these about 5-6 yrs ago. They're on the small side, so my son was able to wear them comfortably at age 7-8. When his buddies are over and need a pair, there's never an excuse for any of them not to have a pair to wear. I can actually wear them just fine as well, as can the wife.

My experience is most of the people that wear that style of Timberlands (especially unlaced or untied like in the photo) aren't really "working"... :lol_hitti

Thanks everyone!

Boy, Red 17, Harbor Freight sells some cheap junk, but I haven’t seen anything as poor as that face shield! There is no forehead protection at all there. Plus anytime I attempt to use something of inferior quality on a child it always falls down in their face, slides off or is uncomfortable. Then the next moment the kid has removed it.

Of the stuff I bought it fits Jimmies face perfectly, but I often found the ear piece of the safety glasses on the middle outside of his ear. How did it get there when I just put it behind and over his ear? The ear muffs squeeze very tight so they don’t move like the adult ones did when he initially wore those. He had to hold the Peltors on his head with two hands.

Here’s the face shield I use now, I use Novex Bionic https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001VY3ACE/?tag=atomicindus08-20
and I am sure that would easily crank down to fit the boys. It covers much of your head plus the bottom support diverts air blasts and debris away from your neck. The problem is it is very difficult to wear ear muffs along with the face mask. Something I do when using a grinder, so the face mask is not a good solution for kids in my opinion based on what they mostly complain about. “It’s too loud!”

I do appreciate you contributing to the thread and putting up your suggestion.
