I was working at Sears years ago and had a lady come in to buy a $800 tool box.

I asked her what she was using it for and she said clothes. I was like wtf.

She explained that she was buying it for her 3 year old son and that he would use it as a clothes dresser and when he got older he could use it for tools and would already have a tool chest.

I thought it was a unique and cool idea.

Has anyone else done this?

Yes, my son has a 26" craftsman for his dresser. He is 2 years old and his room is Harley themed, white orange and black with a black toolbox for the dresser. He keeps toys in the bottom drawers right now and when he gets older he can use it for a tool box.

I did not nor would not pay $800 though. I used the sywr points I earned last fall when I replaced every appliance in the house to get it for free during the black Friday sale along with a bunch of tools for him when he gets a little older.

A few years back my mother asked me about buying a sears tool chest to put in her walk-in closet to use for storing valuables. I think she had heard or read about it being a secure lockable container. I told her I didn't think it was a great idea but I do like the idea of using a toolbox for a dresser, especially for a motor vehicle themed kid's room.

My friends son has had 4 toolboxes in his room as furniture for years. They did it when they got him the race car bed and he has continued to use them for over 10 years

Years ago the Nebraska furniture mart had a bedroom set with a race car theme. The dresser looked like a Snap On pit box.
I'm not one to make impulsive purchases but if I had a son back then I would've bought the dresser on the spot.

My boy has a 26" top and bottom in his room. He loves the idea and has asked me many times why I don't have one in my room. It can easily get kids interested in tools and boxes.

My wife uses my old Craftsman 26" bottom half as a dresser for socks, *******, bras and other unmentionable items.

The TV in the bedroom sits on top of it.

Her old dresser was some cheap particle board ************* and falling apart. I jokingly told her just to use my old craftsman box. She looked at it and immediately said great idea.

i put a cheap cman box from sears outlet in my son's room. it think it was like $60 or something around that. it was cheaper than a dresser at a furniture store and it matches a big locker type cabinet we have in there.

I would have found every sharp edge on a toolbox had it been in my room as a kid lol. I still manage to catch an edge on my box at work on a fairly regular basis and I'm a grown up lol.

I remember seeing a black 26" 5 drawer bottom box in a doctors office one day. I guess it served for a locking storage.

Better quality than a lot of the furniture out there these days, plus the drawers are way smoother.

Although should one do this I strongly suggest bolting it to the wall with some brackets to prevent pulling over, because kids do stupid **** like open drawers and try to climb them.
