Kill fire ants!!

Need to kill some fire ant mounds. Have torti in the same area so poison is a no go. Anybody have a good way?Ok, so we have to build a ant killer. Thinking a propane stand, pressure cooker. Need to make an injector that we can stab into the nest that would hook up to the blow off on the pressure cooker. Steam cook the little bustards. Any thoughts?

When I was stationed in Texas in the 70's there was a guy that converted a steam cleaner to just pump boiling water through a nozzle. He would shove this wand down the top of the hole and it would cook them all without hurting much else. He even gave guarantees.

Dawn dishwashing soap. Squirt a full-strength blast into the top of the mound, then use a pump sprayer to spray a strong soap/water mixture around the perimeter. Soak it pretty good.

Not being able to use poisons limits you to natural products like diatamascious earth and orange oil. Even though they natural don't know effect on your pets.

Fire is the likely winner or boiling water.

I've read that grits will kill them but haven't tried that yet. Boiling water poured down the nest will kill them but it also kills the grass around the bed too.

Amdro, works well, only takes about 3 tbsp per mound. Takes about a week or so. My dad is 71 and almost had a nervous breakdown waiting on the mounds to die, apparently he was under the impression that he could sprinkle it on and the ants would instantly die and burst into flames. We were riding around the yard on the cart and he was giving me grief because the Amdro didn't work, I asked him were the fireant mounds went if it wasn't working. There was not a single mound on 2 acres.

Amdro is the best of the best. Doesn't take much either. If you're lucky enough to catch the nest build early in the summer, you're ahead of the game. Either way, that stuff is amazing.

Gas soaked rag, wrapped around a rock , dropped into mound let them get all over it and pissed drop a match on it tada! I hated them friggin things when I was stationed in TX.

Orthene kills them in a day or two instead of weeks, and yes, it kills the queen.

Spinosad kills them too. Mix 1-2 tbsp to a gallon of water and pour into the mound.

I use it for gardening as its "organic certified" and it kills em dead.

problem with a lot of other methods of killing fire ants is you dont really kill them, they just move around.

When we have a couple mounds somewhat close to each other, two of us get a large shovel full strait down from the core and dump it into the other persons mound. Within a day or 2 the mounds are dead. This method ***** when the mounds are a few hundred feet apart. I'm going to try out the orange oil and dawn method studied by Texas A&M. I haven't had a mound in some time so I haven't tried it yet.

Mrs Danger comes from East Texas. For a few years in the early 1980s, the colonies would go to war and kill each other off. After a few years, the ants wouldn't fight. They would just go back home. It was like they were just one big happy family.

She says that she could buy chloroform at the hardware store, pour it into the nest, and that would kill them. You can't buy that anymore.

I use a 5 gallon bucket full of water with a cup of liquid soap mixed in. If it's an old nest you may need several buckets. Need to keep pouring it on until the nest is full and you drown the queen. You miss her and they'll be back.

But they'll at least be cleaner.
