I have actually thought about doing that exactly myself. Only because I do not want to use poison because my dogs could get it. However I would use my old 9N tractor, it certainly would produce enough CO to kill anything in the hole :willy_nil :eyecrazy:

BTW, my grandfather used the same method way back in 50's and 60's to kill gophers or whatever that burrowed under his barn. Hook the old truck up and let it run to gas them out. This is not a new idea by any means.

I have killed over 100 moles on my property (2 acres) in the past 2 years.

The EZ-set mole eliminator trap. I have about 5 of them. They are glorious.

Links? Need pics of exactly which one it is.

I'm using this plunger style one, only caught 1 out of about 20 times I've set it.

That Rodenator guy is an idiot going to the bank. 3000 dollars for what some M100's would do? Stick the round end of the firecracker in a hose, light it and shove it down in there. The concussion should do the trick. If not, you'll have some crazy *** gophers.

If the problem is really moles, be aware they don't eat your plants, they just eat worms, grubs and other things in the soil. Maybe backpedal a little on the killing frenzy?

I bought a Tomcat Mole Trap @ lowes a few weeks ago for around $20, which seems to be functionally similar to teh EZ-set unit (but plastic). I caught the first mole on the 2nd day & havent seen any new tunnels yet.

OP, I'm gonna keep that idea handy and maybe try it for shiggles.

I got one of those as well and it is useless. Tried it several times, even prepped the landing spot. Just couldn't get the mole. I gave up on it. It'll go in the garage sale pile.

Yup, they like the grubs. Last season us and the neighbors laid down GrubX. It helped a little bit (my neighbors veggie garden started thriving) but didn't get rid of the moles. I tried poison pellets, poison worms, the poison smoke, flooding tunnels with the water hose - but they stayed around. The best kill I got was catching one on the move while flooding with the water hose. I grabbed the shovel and he was dispatched. Winter came and that was that.

This spring we had one or two moles with a tunnel pattern that ran across all our yards. He moved with regular routine. I tried that killing trap up there but after a few weeks it was apparent it wasn't working. I GrubXed the heck out of the yard. Every last inch and then some. I kept stomping the tunnels so I could check for activity. It's been a month or two now and no new tunnels have been made.

Oh, word of caution on the GrubX, the bag says to only use it once a year because of the poisons. They don't want massive dosing to end up in the water supply

I have had excellent results using the poison pellets that come in the cone container. You just poke a hole in the path and drop a few pellets in. The dogs do not get at the pellets because they are under ground. Moles run up and down their paths they dig and cannot resist the pellets.

That's my 2 cents. Good Luck

Hey, I am from Tennessee!! Seriously we have a bad problem here as well. I tried the mole trap above and didn't have any luck either. I saw those boxes of rubber worms they sale here. It is suppose to kill them. I didn't want to pay 20 bucks for only 6. So I came up with a few things. One thing I did was to buy a pack of rubber worms used for fishing. In the hole I put some of the mole poison in the same hole as the worm. I did about 6 worms in the ground and 2 were missing. I also took a hose from my trucks exhaust and put it in the hole as well.So one of these or a combination of the things apparently killed the little buggers. I hope they stay away.

Pretty sure I got the queen(s). Some of my neighbors though that do nothing have giant volcanos of dirt everywhere.

Oh and those spear traps are worthless, as previously mentioned

I've read the same thing, BUT, I also read that it's mice that use the mole runs that eat the roots, bulbs, etc. If that's true (I have no way of knowing for sure) then the moles are the source of the problem.

I don't have any plants, shrubs etc. All I got is grass and those little fuckers are leaving BIG pipeline humps all over it. My yard looks like ****, If I mow it, the tops get clipped off and I have Big dead grass areas, chopped dirt, and uneven ground. Not a killing frenzy, but kill them I will. Every last one of those little bastards if I have to poison the ground and kill everything for the next ten years! Any time you feel the need to save some of these creatures, you are more than welcome to come save a few. Bring them back to where ever it is you live and let them loose on your yard.:rocker:

Oh man you got moles!!! Nows time for the fun way to kill them. My grandfather taught me this method 40 yrs ago. 1st off ya gotta get a comfortable lawn chair, Then you need a six pack of beer!!. a .22 rifle and your set.

Now you watch which dirt pile is active and set your lawn chair just down range. Get all comfy in the lawn chair and start to consume the beer while keeping the gun pointed at the hole entrance. when ole mole/gopher pops out , bust the hell outta him:rocker:

It took me a few years to figure out why we changed to the 410 shotgun after the second six pack of hot schlitz.:eyecrazy:

Good hunting to you and thanks for remindin me to go out and check for gophers this weekend, maybe I'll get lucky and find one!

hahaha.... hunt'n season is here.. for the last two years i've gotten one gopher each year.... here's the only sure fire way to know you got'm...
patience... and sit there till you see movement and keep watching and listening.. you can actually hear them snaping off the weed and see it being pulled back down into the ground (just like on the cartoons)... be patient and wait till he actually sticks his head up out of the hole... i use a 20 guage shotgun.. works for me

As much as I'd love to shoot them, I have close neighbors. I can't use poison I have two dogs. My Daschund gets moles, but not enough of them. Besides, he makes a mess of my lawn, worse than the moles. The giant killers is just black powder, I could just make those. I think the carbon dioxide from the exhaust may be a better method. At least it's free and it's forced into a larger area. Actually I haven't seen any movement this morning. *Crossing fingers now* We'll see how it goes. I'll try the exhaust trick a couple times if they are still around. Just need to find good hills. My yard has very heavy thick grass so it's hard to tell whats new. The entire neighborhood is infested with the little bastards....If this works I'll probably have to drive my truck all over the neighborhood to kill them all. My luck is one of my neighbors will belong to PETA!

I use a garden hose and will get a mole 90% of the time. If I see runs I will walk them back down to flatten them. If they are up a little while later, I'll watch what direction they are going, put a garden hose uphill from them and turn it on. As soon as water hits a mole his instinct is to come straight up. As soon as he does, I'll pitchfork him.

A for instance as to how powerful a mole is, I had one with two tines through his side, set him down on the driveway, and he can drag the pitchfork. I held it above the grass a tad amount and in just a couple of seconds he had himself partially buried. They are some powerful critters

We had a mole issue for years and tried all kinds of techniques to rid of them with no success. Heard about using Milky Spore to rid the area of grubs which attracts the moles as they feed on them. One easy application of the Milky Spore and we have not had any moles since.

Here's and article on it:
http://www.gardensalive.com/article.asp?ai=453

It does take a season before seeing results. Also it's been about 5-6 years since the spore treatment so it's long lasting. I may be due for another treatment.

My Golden Retriever seems to have worked out a non-aggression pact with my moles.

The right dog, or even a big house cat, can do wonders for keeping moles and voles out of your yard. Unfortunately, my dog isn't one of those dogs.

Update:

After killing only a single mole in about 25 tries (over a couple years) with the plunger trap I posted earlier, I bought one of these:

newmole-traps.jpg

I am now 2 for 2 with this, triggered on the first night I set it each time. Jackpot.

let's substitute the words Get rid of moles...

I know everyone will laugh, but many years back, I tried flooding them out, ended up with a wet yard. Tried the smoke bombs down the holes. It didn't deter them. A neighbour, an elderly fellow suggested an old time "cure", human hair, available at the local barber shop or hair stylist, no charge.
Just stuff the hair down into the holes, when the moles come in contact with it they vacate the area. It did work for me, or maybe it was just time for them to leave????? :dunno: Good Luck

A little info on it might help. Web site, name of the trap, etc. Pic don't do much by itself.

Charles....I don't know if I'd go this route. I bought 2 of these mole "killers" from Amazon and tried for 6 months and didn't catch one. I had the best success with good old mouse traps at the end of the tunnels where they pop up and also with the worm shaped poison sold at Home Depot.

Kerryt, I have been using the same kind.. I got mine from Tractor supply. Check tractorsupply.com First time I set these last year I got 2 right away. Moles don't mess with my yard anymore. I also started putting down grub killer. that has helped alot and is the best defense. If you have a trap, that means they are already destroying your yard. Be Proactive!!!
