King Sealy Drill Press

Guys,

Whats a good "I don't really need it but couldn't pass it up" price on a Craftsman K/S drill press. Appears to be well cared for in photo, 1950's maybe 15 inch floor model with manuals etc. I already have an old Atlas and Sprunger bench model, as well as an old delta/Rockwell 15" floor model. I don't have lots of room but think these look cool.

Asking price is $350 down from $450 last week when I offered $250 for a caring home.



What are these things worth these days.

Depends on your market, but around here in the NE, $100-$150. That one looks to be in excellent shape, but I have purchased one as nice for less than$100 about 2 years ago. At $350, you're well into Delta Rockwell 17" DP territory around here, a far superior DP.

Thanks guys that's what I wanted to hear. I will pass on it unless he decides to come way down on price. I didn't want to be foolish and hear later that I should have dropped everything and run out to save a rare piece.

I saw the original listing. That DP is worth way more then $100. It looks to be in pristine condition with the original owners manual. Condition alone brings it up much closer to $200-250. If you find a $100 model it'll likely need parts/repair/restoration and that adds up real fast.

It's also in the "great machinery wasteland" called Oregon where demand is high and supply is low.

If I were the OP I'd at least take a look in person and start the conversation with the seller.

Those are every bit as good and some say better than the same size Delta DPs. It depends upon how much you value pristine, floor model and a manual. They don't come along every day, but within the past year:

I bought a nice working gold bench version with original Craftsman BB motor for my son for $75, light surface rust.

A couple of months ago, I passed up a nice working gray bench version for $75 because I'm overstocked on DPs.

That DP is worth A LOT more than $100 at that condition, as it seem from that single photo.

I have seen guys buying them around $100 on here with rust that requires a lot of effort to get it looking that nice. $350 is a fair pricing, again by looking at that single photo, and here's the break down why:

-$100 for rusty one requires restore
-$100 in material and equipment (paint, primer, sand papers, cleaners, and tools/equipment)
-$200 in labor ($20/hr @ 10hrs+; which is cheap labor)

If you got the skill and tools to restore one, find one to restore. Restoration is not for everybody and this one is geared toward tool collector that want to put it to use immediately.

Y'all guys forgot to remember that labor and material is expensive our country. Made in USA is good and expensive!!!

hey, neat, that DP (or at least major parts of it) was likely made about six blocks away from my house right here in sunny ypsilanti, michigan but i think that price is way too steep; i'm with what most of the other gents here are saying... i'd probably offer around $250 too.

Is that a foot switch I see? If it worked like it should needs nothing and I needed a drill press. $225 is would probably be my tops. Unless it did have other accessories. That looks like a really nice machine.
