Does anyone have any experience with them and are they made in England?

Cheers

I never heard of them and quite frankly, I'm afraid to even Google that! I got a pretty good idea what may come up and that would be the time somebody walks in on me.

I mustered the courage to Google it and came up with a company-search result that I think you may very well be right about your initial presumption.
The price shows a similar pain inflicted by(I'm assuming here :shocking: ) as to what you were referring to. Sans lube !

Are you located in the UK? I don't think Rees any distribution in the USA and it would probably cost a fortune to ship one here.

OP likely is in UK . . . . thus King **** boxes/tools would be local to him.

Now would be good time for OP to Update GJ Profile with City/State/Country.

with everyone on GJ thinking they are "King ****" - this company is missing a huge marketing opportunity in no longer making this box! - would sell like wildfire in USA!

The main thing to do would be to figure out who makes the tool boxes for Abingdon King **** since they don't seem to do any sheet metal manufacturing. I thought it might be Talco since they're a British manufacturer that specializes in toolboxes, but the King **** boxes and the Talco boxes I can find images of look to have differences in construction.

I also checked the King **** website and couldn't find the boxes, so the boxes are either really new, or King ****, like a number of other British tool manufacturers, is not very good at updating their website.

This is the Talco website.

This is the Abingdon King **** website.

For those who find the name funny, the company was originally called Abingdon Engineering, but the name was changed to King **** in honor of the owners show winning bulldog. Just imagine if the owner had had a show winning rooster.

Sorry lads, I am from the uk, I was looking for an alternative to a snap on box, something manufactured in the uk, I will update my details when I get home later, thanks for the information. I had a Talco box when I was an apprentice are they still manufactured in the uk? I'll check the roll cabs out later when I'm home.

Cheers, john.

I presumed the Talco boxes were still UK, but only really know about them from a few forums were they were referred to as British made. I'm in the USA and as far as I'm aware have never run into one.

The Talco website has this on the ABOUT TALCO page:

"For over thirty years Talco is a brand that has been associated with quality tool storage products, still operating from its original base in the heart of the Midlands known as the ''black country'', Talco provides the customer with a quality British made steel tool storage product."

on the semi-british theme, and oem manufacturers being mentioned , does anyone know who manufactures the British "Halfords Industrial range" tool chests ? simple upper and lower(roll) boxes only approx 600mm wide but deep (full depth top box) decent heavy construction with neat auto latching handles, and a smooth roll handles rather than the standard fixed folded design.

Ilike the design , just would like something matching but BIGGER :)

sorry to '****-in', just felt the 'right' people were looking in on the thread :)

pretty sure they're China manufactured but decent heavy quality all the same...

cheers, N

My first full set of spanners were King ****, and very nice they are too, though some inadvertant damp garage storage at some point has resulted in some surface rust in the highly polished finish :(

I've heard that halfords tools are manufactured by the same factory that produced signet/trident tools, I'm not sure on the boxes though.

I don't think it's made my Talco:

Weird that Talco would have gone into liquidation but the website is still up, especially since the final meeting was listed as being on "4 January 2011". Maybe the webmaster was paid well in advance, and the website was never taken down, but it makes me think someone may have at least purchased the assets and brand name instead.

Another one bites the dust?

Good spot, I missed that one and it does look almost identical except for paint job.

Drawers look the same as Talco drawers, perhaps they bought the designs?

The address listed on the Talco Storage webpage is:

57 Cradley Road
Cradley Heath
Warley West Midlands
B64 6AG

and the phone number:

01384 566127

When I checked Google maps that address came up as:

Venture Steel Group
57 Cradley Road
Cradley Heath B64 6AG, United Kingdom

with the same phone number:

+44 1384 566127

The description from the Venture Steel Group website sounds like they specialize in all the areas needed to manufacture toolboxes, so presumably they're doing the manufacturing.
