I have some modern King **** sockets (my Whitworth stuff). They're very good -- well broached, good (satin) plating, consistent deep imprinting and knurling. They don't get too beat up, so durability hasn't been tested.

From what I know. Most King **** stuff is still made in the UK and are one of the few remaining. Quality is not as good as it used to be due to the pressure on price from the modern public but is still very good compared with imports.

Spanners and sockets are all made in the UK.

I do like their spanners.

Quality is excellent and the company is superb to deal with if you ever have a problem.

Attention to detail is sometimes a bit lacking. You can see their branding stamp on the smaller spanners is too big.

Comparison with other European brands:

I've got a few, mostly Whitworth, and they are fine! Don't think they are quite as strong as say Stahlwille, but they are nowhere near as expensive either!

Finish is very good, and overall, excellent value for money! You can go out and buy Taiwanese stuff at a higher price, that isn't anywhere near as good!

you have to admire the decision to call or continue to call a company "King ****". It requires "b****s of steel" when you remember what "****" is the euphemism for in U.K. english.

LOL

BTW they do make good tools

Kind of genius though. I would have never been interested in them except for that name. And now I'll probably end up buying some of their stuff simply because it makes me laugh...and I have a thing for British cars and it seems like they made many of tool kits for those cars.

King **** tools were named after the founders pet Bulldog... Hence the logo.

This was during the 1920's and the name "****" was very common as a nickname
for people called Richard, and obviously for ones beloved pet dogs... ;)

The word "****" as a slang term for ***** had only been around for a few decades
at that time and it was a far less common use for the word in everyday parlance.

Not sure what prices are for you in England but the wrenches have looked pretty crude from the photos I've seen. Someone not long ago had a shot of the wrenches showing the bends and seemingly none of them were bent at the same angle, as if they were hand bent instead of using a machine. Some people might like that old world craftsmanship I guess....

I have never known anything from the King **** range to fail, they will more than last a lifetime, well worth it, if you can afford them,
