good use of the in between space you have done ... it's looking apt to place the cabin in between for an additional room to get utilized for relevant means

Thanks, Eric!

Today's episode:

Let there be light, concluded

Today I installed two more banks of Lithonia lights, T5HO (4x per bank), same model as previous.

Also installed two power bars, diamond plated.

Also moved a lot of my malarkey back from the new shed into the cabinets.

HD shopping featured prominantly in today's festivities: both banks of lights, the two diamond plate power bars, and ten bins on sale for a quite-low unit price.

Think I'll buy another ten bins tomorrow, they seem to be a bargain (though probably aren't terribly heavy-duty, per-se).

On the photos, and lighting: general comments...

* I personally like white light for garages. 6100K or so (whatever it is, exactly) is enjoyable. Not for home interior, however.

* Four banks of eight footers, sixteen total T5HO bulbs, is quite bright enough for my purposes. I was (am) constrained by certain layout realities in my garage space. It will do.

* Pictures of lit spaces don't easily convey details about the light. Some of these shots appear a bit over-exposed; my little Canon couldn't quite contrast light/dark well enough. It is definitely bright, and definitely white light.

* The fixtures hum a bit. Slightly annoying. Didn't expect that. I'll live with it.

* I've read elsewhere T5H0 are probably better "high bay". I can believe that: when they catch the eye (8' ceilings), definitely annoying.

These touches you are adding at the end are putting it above the top! I've gone over the pics many times already. Got me thinking about a few things in my own space. Well done, Sir.

Thanks. More to come (details). Ordered a few odds n' ends today. I "think" the important items are done (flooring, cabinets, lighting, electrical).

Pretty sure I'm going to paint the door and back window case an alloy gray to match the RaceDeck. Pantone color match is Benjamin Moore's "Wall Street". Maybe a semi-gloss. I'll probably snake a quart of it tomorrow, see what happens.

Time to start splashing some spackle around, too, to clean up the minor drywall blems.

This "makeover" turned out awesome. Uniform color scheme. Good choice of materials and interior.

The diamond plate is a nice touch. Both sturdy and decorative, and they make the garage look larger. Only backside would be if You do a lot of welding. The reflection could be annoying. But in that case they would be easy to cover up, so no problem.

Well done, Blondziegbart.

Pitrow is Essentially Finished (99%).

Additions since previous (c. July 2013 through to completion September 2013):

- Diamond Plate wall swtiches (three only).
- Gray accent paint: rear window frame, door frame ("Wall Street," Benjamin Moore semi-gloss).
- Partial second coat of pale gray wall paint ("Graytint," Benjamin Moore eggshell finish). Spent significant time on paint detailing and cleanup.
- Caught a closeout at Sears for a 26" tool box that very closely matches the decor, and fits on my Craftsman tool cart (under counter, black).
- Checker-flag tape stripe along perimeter above blue (only) and Diamond Plate.
- Florescent clock.
- Reframed most of my prints from motorcycle roadracing days, matting primarily in blue, dark gray, white.
- First aid kit, wall mount.
- Fire extinguisher w/sign, wall mount.
- Simplehuman brushed metal waste can.
- Blue stool (Yamaha, not Ducati (grin)).
- Wall mount single helmet rack.
- Custom-cut piece of matching Diamond Plate for entry door. Drilled and mounted in all of 15 min.
- Various misc aesthetic touches.

Occurs to me I should wall-mount one of my favorite Fenix LED flashlights, too. Next to the door, probably. On the to-do list.

The photo lighting, shots below, is a bit weird. So that which appears purple in a shot or two is actually a true royal blue (cabinets: Wilson Art Laminate D417-60 Lapis Blue).

As mentioned earlier, lights are T5H0, 6500K daylight. Love them, t-plus two months. I'll need cover plates for the ceiling fixtures, and puzzle out how to hide my wiring better, but that won't be too challenging.

Takeaways, garage specifically:

1. Most of the work was subbed out. That which wasn't, I figured out on my own.
2. GarageLogix was great to work with: recommended!
3. The lighting thing was interesting: in the end I went with what "seemed" right, given my layout, vs. calculations. My space is relatively small, however. There are various ways to solve that and the threads on Garage Forum were quite interesting.
4. "Don't know what I don't know," one of my favorite phrases from business intelligence/big data mining: there may be aspects of my build-out to be cleaned up further. Time will tell, and I'll take all comers with counsel or constructive criticism. So far, it hits all the marks on function and aesthetics that *seem* right *to me*.
5. I really had to think-through the correct flooring solution for my particular situation. Reading many threads, I think a clever person could Visio flowchart the decision process with possible options: RaceDeck vs. epoxy vs. (etc.). Budget, type of work or storage typically done, substrate, climate: all seem like top-level decision-points.
6. Liftmaster Wi-Fi garage door openers are pretty neat. Clearly in the future we'll all have some level of home automation, this is one of the first steps for me.

That is all, at-current. May edit in the future as events unfold. Hope this was useful to others, as well!

Your garage is looking GREAT. I'm enjoying the Blue/Black/Grey color scheme. Great job.

Note: I attended that motorgp in 1993 in person. :)

Good man: I saw you there, then, along with many thousands of other close n' personal friends at Laguna Seca! Little John K. won it, on a Cagiva of all things, when Doohan crashed out in one of the back turns. I was in the Corkscrew, one turn away, when Doohan binned it. Heckuva day for Americans, not so good for Australians.

...and a stunning poster, of Wayne Rainey in his prime ;-)

Thanks for kudos, my garage is more about form than function these days, to be honest. Maybe I should add that to my notes: there was a day, mid-1990s, when I would have definitely gone the other way and concentrated on a motorcycle lift (probably two), space for a running race bike and a parts bike, plus bins for various parts, and work stations for tools and other workflow. There would be an old truck and no second car.

Times change, I left things in a state where changes can be made (adding items) should I start wrenching seriously again. These days, it ain't worth it (consulting time >> time paid to vendors to solve problems). Back then, it was.

Ok, when you said John K won, I realized I AM getting old.. i attended the 1990 and 1991 USGP. John was still riding 250's in 1990, he switched to 500's in 91'. I actually met John a few times in my home town of Modesto, CA (Kenny Roberts grew up there, went to school with my mom and my aunt). We also met and hung out with Randy Mamola while at the race, he was a pretty cool guy. Wow, those were a lot of years ago. I got out of riding bikes in the mid 90's. I decided someone shouldn't ride the way I rode on the street, and I didn't have the $ to race.

Thanks for bringing back some good old memories.

Thanks, Dubber.

Your build gave me some design cues, along with a gentleman RE a Yamaha garage (the latter featuring a lot of blue. May have found that one on Racedeck's FB page, though I'll look for it here too). Appreciate your blazing that trail!

Great to one day realize design dreams, or as close as one can reasonably get given funding constraints, and mine was mostly from my head and thence articulated to a couple contractors. I do admire guys who can build cabinets in-particular from scratch, like a good buddy of mine (who should post more often here). The sometimes-prodigious amount of work necessary to get the details...just *so*...is astounding to me, though for many guys clearly a labor of love.

Begging, borrowing, or otherwise-re-purposing and recycling various parts is half the fun, too. I have half a mind to do a ground-up restoration on a motorcycle few others besides me would consider a "rolling classic" (1986 Suzuki GSX-R750 or 1987 GSX-R1100), one of these days, which would entail additions to my workflow.

I'm a fan of risk-mitigation via passing it off to others when I do not have a *particular* expertise, RE precision carpentry (cabinets). It doesn't make for quite as-interesting reading to say, "they did this" vs. "I have the following decisions to make about (some particular of the process), here is how I intend to handle it, are there better ways." Ah well.

Glad you stopped by and posted on my thread which reminded me to check back on yours. :)
Your garage looks really great. A lot of nice detailed touches and great color choices.

Edit: a sign of how impressive the garage is - I even forgot to mention; that's a very nice Turbo you have :)

I was looking for color ideas in the "motorcycle garage" thread, and found yours. NICE!!! I have a kegerator painted Ford 'Grabber Blue', and I think some cabinets flanking it like yours will look awesome.

Nice Multi too! I've got a M796 20th Anniversary ;)

Thanks for kind words.

As probably mentioned in this thread, I looked at a lot of patterns on RaceDeck site (FB, and main site) and this forum. I'm not too proud to take design cues from others, either, with my own personal touches.

Mine is more form than function, specifically optimized for storage vs. tools space and mechanical repair workflow. Building a fully "working" motorcycle racing garage would have been a slightly different path, and there are more than a few interesting concepts on this site and elsewhere, fully realized. Pretty sure I won't be going there again, though: days gone by, indeed.

On the lighter side, the most striking patterns I've seen incorporating cabinets, accents, and RaceDeck are built around a strong color. Mine was blue, specifically "Lapis Blue" (Wilson Art Laminate D417-60 Lapis Blue). Definitely all-me. I know that Ford color, Grabber Blue, and looked very hard at a Saleen Mustang painted in that hue just a few years back when the latest 5.0's were new (2010, I believe). Lapis Blue is a bit darker.

I've seen some interesting red hues; that is popular with many guys. The more-exotic orange is striking (usually a H-D theme, though would work for a dedicated KTM man, too). If you can dream it, someone will build it. Nothing wrong with the good old grays, blacks, and brushed metals for cabinets we guys are usually fond of: in fact lots more non-custom cabinet options there.

Wanted to be a bit different, m'self.
