Kitchen cabinet questions - cost and paint

Hello all I'm entertaining kitchen cabinets as a less expensive alternative to newage cabinets for my upcoming one car garage. I like the red newage and came across this thread .... .... And the user has red kitchen cabinets.

What would be the best way to paint kitchen cabinet doors? I don't even know where to start with the question lol... Being wood I don't know if buying a paint gun and shooting the paint with my air compressor or have some just brushed it on?..

I'm hoping that buying kitchen cabinets (lets assume new from HD) and having them painted would cheaper than new newage or even gladiator cabinets.

Just put in new cabinets in the kitchen myself. And I've spent a lot of time looking at cabinets. So my opinion would be, go to the surplus outlet. See what they have in a plywood cabinet. HD. and Lowes have **** for cabinets, until you get into big money. Sometimes even then. With plywood, you get something that can be fixed, when you accidentally pop the door off. Of course it all depends on your budget. Lista makes what you really want. If your pockets are deep enough LOL. Personally, I'm using the old kitchen cabinets.

If you want just the door and drawer fronts painted that's ideal because you can remove them and paint them separately by any method you're comfortable with. I think you can order the cabinets primed and that's what I'd do.

Sorry to chuckle but...hahaha....Went to HD today to look at kitchen cabinets for my garage. Starting price was around $60. Went to local Habitat for Humanity re-use store. No cabinets at all. Went to local liquidation center. Their prices were HIGHER than Home Depot. Ended up picking up 2 red and black craftsman cabinets at sears. Cheaper than the Gladiator and better looking than the Craftsman 'professional' cabinets.

Recently installed a set of kitchen cabinets for a family member that we bought off the internet.

They were plywood boxes, albeit 1/2", with wood faces, RTA flat packed...and cheaper than the low quality MDF ones at Lowes. The white ones might work in a garage:

Ft Knox knocked down over 100 sets of military quarters just before I moved here and beforehand someone went in and salvaged all the 30+ year old oak kitchen cabinets. I purchased 13 upper cabinets from one of these folks at $40/each and they are hanging in my garage right now. I didn't need to do anything but put hardware on them. They are more solid than the cabinets put in my new home kitchen. Its a no brainer...go to a local restore or check around where someone is remodeling. All you have to do is sand the fronts and paint with a flat, or semi-gloss of your choice or re-stain.

Check Craigslist also. Many times people will post them for a few hundred to free for a set that has come out of a kitchen remodel. You will need to move fast when you see them though because often the good ones are gone quick.

I bought a whole kitchen's worth of cabinets on Kijiji for $175. Brush painted them black (about $35 for 1 gallon), re-arranged them and put a new laminate counter top over it for $300.

I could have gone cheaper on the counter top, the rest is pretty much cheap as can be and the result looks great.
