Kitchen Cabinets in garage

I know many of you have done this and I am taking the cabinets out of my house and going to repurpose them also.

How high off the bench did you mount your uppers? I am thinking going 15 inches. Thanks,

15" seems REALLY low to me. Give yourself some room if you have the headspace. Mount them much higher.

I mounted mine 24", it gave me room to put a small under cabinet fluorescent light, a clock, my sprinkler controls, and my cable remote box on the wall behind the work surface. Under it is the lower kitchen cabinet that I put a new top on- it is basically a craft work area or for things my wife likes to do.

This is not my main work bench tho I wouldn't even consider putting one there, it limits space that is needed to do large work that requires the height.

Above the main bench I put shelves 12' x 24" that are 40" above the bench under the shelves I have 12' of pegboard on the wall for frequently used tools. Works great for me. Good luck

I went 28" high off bench so I could get big things on the bench and still clear the flourescent light under the cabinets

Thanks guys. There will be cabinets over half of the bench. This is just for small repairs at home as we have a farm shop for the big stuff. Thanks again. I hope to post some pictures of the garage as I work on it.

My IKEA kitchen cabinets. I didn't measure how high they are, but they are more than 15", and plenty high enough.

I prefer 22" ~ 24" above bench top.

The standard height is 18 inches above the counter but as others mentioned, since it's not a kitchen application any more, you may want to go higher.

I did 25" off the washerdryer, and 29 over my work bench, but that second was to clear a set of parts bins on the wall between the back splash and the cabinet.

I haveafew out in the garage, no idea on what the height is. One set touches the ceilingand that's where it stays. The other single cabinet is above the microwave which sits in the small fridge.

I built these ash cabinets and finshed them for my gargage and they match my kitchen cabinets.

If it is a shop then mount them as high as you can get away with. The last thing you want to do is make all of the usable counter space feel cramped while working. I would go 30". This will give you easy access to the first 2 shelves in the Cabinet with the upper shelf needing a step ladder. Really not a huge deal when you think about it. Then the lighting you choose has room to light up a little more than just the bench top.

15" is not even close to enough room. Go into your kitchen and see what they are at then imagine working on a large project with the uppers right in the way. I would definitely hang an upper mocked up to get a feel for where you want them to be. This will help visualize what I am talking about by wasting your counter space.
