I put kitchen cabinets in the wifes craft building to use as a bench and storage. We got them at Lowes. I added 3/4" MDF on top, and covered that with formica. She painted them white and they look great. They won't get heavy duty use like they might in a garage, but even if they were in a garage, how much weight do you usually have on a bench. I can sit on hers with no problem and that 240 lbs. :scared:

Here are the ones I put in my wifes building. They're plenty sturdy. Although she has them all painted white now. IIRC, I think we only had maybe $300 give or take a small amount in them.

I did have these in my garage, but I ended up giving them to a friend as he didn't have anything in his garage. He always helped me out when I needed help on doing something, so this was some of the payment for him helping me. I do sort of miss them though as there was a lot more storage room. But when I jumped in on the Gladiator overhead cabinet sale, I bought 18 of the Gladiators and got rid if these. And to let ones know, I didn't have a lot in them. The doors I bought for $5 each. The overheads are made out of 1" x 12" shelving pine, and either 1" x 3" or 1" x 4" pine fronts. The doors are oak and were already finished. There are quite a few places around that sells cabinets doors. A lot of them have been misdrilled for hinges, or the grain don't quite match for a quality kitchen, so the factories unload them to people that buys them up in quantities, then resells them. Just the other day, someone on CL has over 25,000 doors in stock to sell.

The lower cabinets are just 2" x 4" framing, with 1" x 3" or 1" x 4" for the fronts. I put a piece of OSB on the top and added doors on the ends.

Technically not kitchen cabinets per se, but would work in a kitchen with a little upgrading.

Nice!

So, while we're talking about kitchen cabinets...mounting... Are you guys mounting the cabinets at the same "Standard" Dimensions as a kitchen cabinet set which is 18" off the top of the worksurface?

I did the hybrid approach......the MIL got her kitchen remodeled...so I got all the cabinet fronts....

I made the cabinets out of gray melamine (low maintenance) and painted the fronts to match.

And put in a bar...

Here is my work in progress! Love the kitchen cabinets so far! Lots of hidden storage plus the lazy susan is great for oil jugs and spray cans.

Me likes, did you think of painting them a color? Would make them look more contemporary and more like garage cabinets.

I used to have painted cabinets in my old garage and they were just ok. I didn't like the fact that if it were scuffed by something it would leave a mark. I plan on adding grey end panels and grey toe kick. Then Ill be doing dark grey wainscoting 38" up along with brushed aluminum slatwall above that. Should look pretty sharp when im finished.
