How many of you have a Kit setup? I have a oil change kit. Funnels, drain pans, pig blankets, strap wrenches and such. Just a grab and go type set up. Friends think it is strange?

Kits! I have lots of them. For your oil example I have a couple of tool totes filled with funnels, filter wrenches, grease gun, an old oil can opener etc. I used to spend all my time looking for all the bits and pieces. Now with it all in one location find it ALL and get on with the job.

I also have a plumbing kit, for example, with all my pipe wrenches, goofy sink wrenches, doomers, shop made tools, valve seat tools, thingamajigs that I have collected over the years. When I do a job, I take the box with them and find all the relevant stuff that I HAVE. Some of the specialized tools make no sense until you are doing plumbing, especially some of the shop made tools. For example I made a 'wrench' to undo the wing nut that hold taps underneath a counter. The nut goes on finger tight and requires a lot of force to take it off after years of service. It's just a piece of electrical conduit that is notched. I would have thrown it out long ago if it wasn't in the plumbing kit.

Another kit is for tools. As an example, I have a tool box for my angle grinder that has all the different wire brushes, abrasives disk, all,en keys, wrenches etc. It is all in one place. If it is not in there I don't have it - No searching required.

I buy old tool boxes to keep all the kits in.

I keep one on a shelf near the left bay of the shop. 2 filter wrenches The Jeeps all use the small one the Chevys and the hot rods use the large one, the box wrenches for both size drain plugs. Keep them setting in the drain pan right above the cases of oil and filters. I kinda like doing them on the Jeeps. Don't need a jack since they all are on 35" tires. Keith

I have a couple of kits for things that I am Likly to do away from my toolbox.

General repair kits. Carry bag with wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, and a few misc stuff

Plumbing kit.
Older carry type toolbox with pipe wrenches, crescent wrenches, channel locks and such used for general home plumbing repairs

Makes it east to just grab the box and go

Just an excellent idea.

I have a sprinkler repair kit set up in a plastic bucket. Fittings, spare heads, short lengths of PVC and cement. All in one place to find it when I need it.

I have one large kit, it has a garage door and over head lighting for ease of viewing. :lol_hitti

In all seriousness I could see where it could be handy if someone does alot of work far from their main tool box. For instance say they keep their tools in the basement and they need to work on the car in the driveway. Just grab a kit and go compared to taking a bunch of misc tools. I think it is a good idea to keep things organized. The only thing I don't like is for multipurpose tools or for someone like myself that is limited on space a bunch of smaller boxes can be a pain to store compared to one or two larger boxes. Now I do have a few small hand carry boxes that I can load up if someone calls and needs me to help them. Then I'll throw in stuff that I think I might need, but nothing pre made.

I don't see why your friends would laugh at it. :dunno: Everyone has their own system, as long as it works for you, who cares?

This - 960 sq/ft kit. There is one "sub-kit" that consists of a 4 drawer box and a gray tub that travel with the car(s) to the track. But if we have anything other than a minor tuning issue, all the pieces get thrown back on the trailer and hauled back to the big kit. I don't thrash at the track. The only issues we've had in the last 10 years have been major anyway.

first pic:the wood part under the window is on casters. has pretty much all my car stuff on it- ramps, jacks, oil, oil pan, fuses, wires, car related stuff, etc. if i will be working on a car, then the whole thing gets rolled out to the car. also makes for a work bench should something need to be removed and worked on.
don't mind the mess. this was taken less then a month after moving in to the house
second pic: still young in my days, and haven't quite accumulated many tools. but this is my wood working area. chop saw, circular saws, saw-zaw, jig saw, cordless screw driver and charger. this one is on casters also, so it can be moved outside the garage should i be cutting things.
i have a third work area. old wood dresser that... is on casters also. this is instead of a rolling tool box like everyone else seems to have.
so i guess you can say i don't exactly have "tool kits" per say, but i have tried to organize my tools so that they would be easy to locate should a job arise in my garage.

Working in the electrical trade has made me a firm believer in setting up tools and materials as kits.Keeping "goes with" items together vastly improve efficiency and eliminates the frustrations of making many trips away from the project to get forgotten items.
As an example, I have a tool bag set up for automotive wiring repair-trailer and truck body lights, etc. In this kit are both a butane torch and soldering iron, solder, heat shrink,a few lengths of typically used wire,**** splices, crimp terminals, tape and ty-wraps.
All of my power tools are in cases, along with the most commonly used accessories. As an example,my Magnum drill,it's side handle and cord-along with a fractional 1/16-1/2 " drill index, tap and drill kit,a couple of unibits and KO cutters fit into an ammo can.
Being able to grab a kit off the shelf and having 90% of what I'll need to get the job done let's me get more done, and most importantly, makes the job much more enjoyable.

I don't have "kits" per say but I do have a few different totes that cover certin jobs.

Like the tool bag that is in the truck holds all the hand tools I might need to do a basic network cable, catv, cctv. One of my tool belts has all the things that you need when connecting cable tv at the pole, but not everything that you would need for a complete install.

Tools that are primarily only used in the garage aren't in specific kits since I don't really have room to store 4 or 5 of somethings that cross into multiple kits.

I do have kits for plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, flooring, and like one of the other posters keep accessories for power tools with that tool.

Track saw box has track clamps, crosscut guide, vacuum adapter, and allen wrench for connecting the tracks.

Grinder kit has wire brushes, cut off and grinding wheels, wrench and so on. I've also put all of my Bosch 12V cordless tools (3/8" drill, impact, driver, saw) in one of their L-Boxxes along with all of the batteries, drill bits, driver bits, saw blades, etc.

Since I just moved into a house with a shed, I'm debating if I want to put a small kit out there with things like sparkplug sockets, ratchet, etc. needed to maintain a mower, trimmer, leafblower, and snowblower.

I do a few kits, too:
Around the house / property -
I have a bucket full of plumbing stuff to handle any repairs - torch and solder, pipe cutter, assorted fittings. Recently added a box of PEX tools and supplies.
One for electrical work - everything but the rolls of Romex.
A box of tools and supplies for drywall work
Another bucket of stuff for electric fence around the garden.
Small tool box full of pins and hardware and a couple of tools associated to it for the tractor.
Setting one up now for the quick little issues that will come up later with the new RV we just bought. - few basic hand tools - Channellocks and screwdrivers, fuses, light bulbs, tape, etc.

I have a large handbox for electrical repairs, another for plumbing repairs, and a bucket full of C-clamps.

The boxes contain a few common parts as well as most of the tools for common jobs.

I have my Craftsman tool chest/rollaway with my main tools that lives in the basement.

If I am doing any work in the field I have:
Canvas riggers bag for all my voice/data tools
CLC bag with extra stuff for installs (drill bits, staple guns, velcro, etc)
Nylon tool belt with Cable TV tools
Klein plastic box (3 level) for electronics and sound tools
Craftsman SST box for CCTV stuff (compression tools, crimpers, cables, power supplies, test camera, connectors and adapters)
Small plastic box with soldering iron, solder, etc

For a basic service call I just take the canvas riggers bag. If I am not working on phones, I will leave the cross connect wire and test set at home.
