Yes I think hard before bringing home large objects. I am kind of layering at this point. The induction on the roadster pickup is a McCulloch centrifigul supercharger with an Almquist 2 carb adapter.

You my Kiwi Friend are one hell of a lucky ******. You must be in your happy place every day of your life. Now i hate you as an Aussie should and envy you as well. I have read about you in the NZ Hot Rod magazine over the years. Glad to have finally seen your set up. Basterd!!!

Almquist! There is a name from the past! Can't remember the last time I've even thought about their catalog of mail order stuff!! Maybe 1959-1960....

Excellent, excellent lay out, Sir! You must pinch yourself everytime you go in your back yard to make sure it's real.

....and love the "transition" shot of your space on one side of the fence, and the Bride-friendly side of the yard on the other.

I took a walk around with the camera and took some current shots. I also dug through alot of old photos and found a bunch that kind of show the evolution of the backyard and garage. I will scan them and post some in the future. Also some of my projects. Here are some from today.....

GREAT pix.

Planned or not? Funny and ironic that the last shot of the night @ 10pm is "Time to Eat".

Kev you've got an eye for the right way to do things even when its an accident...or was it?

What a fabulous walk through history. It brings back so many fond memories and thoughts of a place in time when life was simple, safe and uncomplicated. The thing that hits me the most is that these objects at some stage of their life were real people's real world items and lived and breathed their own story. That drag car frame -someone somewhere built it, raced it and lived his/her dream in it. Kiwi Kev has preserved their memory. Prize item for me is the "California 66" neon sign. That just reeks nostalgia. Well done mate ;)

Just too cool for words. I really like the flathead walkway and the vine weaving its way through the hemi valve cover.

Mr. Kiwi Kev,

Excellent example of a working museum. Thank you for sharing.

In order to properly live vicariously through you, I think we need one of those 360 degree ipix tours, as well as a map. If we're traveling to fantasy land, we at least need to know where the detailed pics of items are in relation to everything else.

I'm kidding of course, unless you want to get right on that as I'm lost over by the wire wheels.

While looking through old pictures I haven't seen for years I found it interesting to see how my yard has evolved. I don't know if you guys give a **** but you're looking at a garage website so I figure you might find it interesting.

The fence.....This is how things looked when I bought the house back in 1991.

scan0033-1.jpg

I took that fence down and built a new taller one further back. It didn't take long before I had it covered with signs.....

scan0032.jpg

After a few years I added a fake roof that stuck out about a foot over the pumps and converted it into a gas station fence.......

scan0031.jpg

After I moved the pumps and built the fake gas station on the back of the house I started hanging hot rod parts on the fence. If I was at a swap meet and saw some junk part that was unrepairable but cheap I would get it just to hang on the fence like the Evans finned flathead heads with the hideouse crack repair, I got them for $35. I figure I'd happily pay that for a cool sign so why not for old broken speed parts to hang up. The dragster was a roller with dummy engine, I have since sold it to a friend to help finance my Willys coupe project........

IMG_2870.jpg

Here is how it currently looks. I guess in 5 years it will look completely different again.....

Kev, thanks for the old pix. Gives us "withouts" hope our yards/garages could be cool too. Whatever became of the tree on the left side of the '91 picture? I'd thnk it wousld be huge by now. How appropriate would a big *** shade tree be in a "shade tree mechanic's Heaven"?

Nowadays those large old signs are $100's IF you ever see them!

BTW, Im camping on the beach at Emma Wood in Ventura this weekend. Rode my bicycle down to the Main St tourist area and every time I saw a hotrod I wondered if it was you!

I like the picture of the American Racing mag wheel. Had a set of those on my 1968 Chevelle SS396 and the shifter knobs on the drill press, one of those was on the org warner 4 speed that I installed a Hurst "T" handle shifter on.

airbassador.....The wire wheels are between the back wall of the Garage and my rear neighbors's fence.

Dan in Pasadena....The Pepper tree was cut down years ago. Those trees grow really fast and are very messy. There were other trees in the backyard that are also long gone. Apple, grapefruit and a giant apricot tree that came down one windy night. When it comes to signs I have never been very picky. You will see porcelain, tin, plastic, wood. Original and repro', many too rough for collectors and some nice ones. I have never paid much for any of them. The Polarine sign ( rough and twisted) was $25 at a local flea market many years ago. The Gulf sign was $80 at Long Beach swap meet many years ago. I have traded for alot of this stuff, mostly labor. I find it very helpful to know people who are serious collectors and work deals with them to get their scraps. I don't have the budget to play the collector game. Dan, If you are in town give me a call, you are welcome to stop by and visit. I will PM you my ph #.

e-tek.... I am very happy to live where I do. There are many places in SoCal I would not want to live but I can't think of anywhere else in the world I would rather live than Ventura. It is expensive to live here but I am not spending any money on heating oil, winter coats, snow tires, snow blowers, ice scrapers,. etc. The climate is so nice here that I don't spend any money on air conditioning in the summer either.

Your garage/yard is one of my favorites. It looks like a great place to relax as well as work. Thanks for showing it off here.

The (wannabe) gas station.......

This is how the corner of the house looked when we moved in......

scan0025-1.jpg

I was working full time out of the garage doing fabrication for local hot rodders and drag racers. No gas station yet, just a small fence to hang a few signs on and a Coke machine. The tree was still there...

scan0026-1.jpg

I see the tree is half gone in this shot.....

scan0059.jpg

Looks like the back wall is there but no canopy yet........

scan0028-1.jpg

Here it is finished, this is probably ten years ago........

scan0030-1.jpg

Here is how it currently looks. The gate is now gone and a small deck has been added to the back of the house....

Extremely generous of you Kevin, thanks. I'd love to take you up on it another time. This weekend - Fri afternoon & Saturday - was kind of a forced "breather" as my daughter is being married next weekend and its gonna be crazy for us this week. Actually, we had to hurry home to Pas because "this week" is starting tonight!

If all us Peeping Toms aren't bugging you, keep any/all pictures coming. I already asked the moderators to put your garage and a few other guy's on the Garage Gallery "sticky" so newcomers can see that; nice as they are, the high dollar, or uber organized garages are not the only way to have a truly cool, cool personal garage space. Hopefully they will. If you haven't see nit,m do a search on member "Nimrod". You space reminds me of his in a different way. I think you'll appreciate it if you haven't seen it yet.

Brian R..... Here are some more surfboards, I love old long boards so I have some in the rafters. I like to ride them also, don't get out as often as i used to. I used to surf almost every morning when I worked at home. I am 5 minutes from the beach......

P5231971.jpg

P5231973.jpg

Also lining the rafters are these pieces. Many people look up at them and can't figure out what they are.........

Well they are the sections removed when chopping tops. I have chopped quite a few cars in my shop over the years and I like to save the souvenirs.

KiwiKev, what's the story on this '34? Is this one of your cars or a customer? Almost looks like a dead project from a swapmeet. It appears the big pieces are mostly there, just needs some assembly. That would be better than any kit on the market today!
