Dan In Pasadena.... I don't plan on painting or staining the wood. I will just let it age naturally. I do plan on painting the garage door.

Made a lot of progress today, should have it all buttoned up tomorrow. Still need to build a door to hide my steel rack and air compressor and finish the redwood molding borders. My garage door needs attention too, it really looks like **** now.

Here are the cedar boards going on....

Some redwood molding around the edges....

By the end of the day we had some signs back up. A few less than before for a less busy look. I still need to finish the molding and the door.

Looks great.

You know what would REALLY set it off? (And probably cost a fortune) would be neon! Yeah, I'm good at spending someone else's money - sorry.

I think letting it age instead of paint is a great idea.

P.S. Your garage door is sagging in the middle but you can tune that up by tensioning the long rod that runs along the bottom. The threads are probably rusty as hell but if you can get them freed up, just tighten them on each side. Maybe just sand the door to bare wood too?

Toolbag.... The signs came from many different places. Swap meets, friends, off buildings, yard sales. I have not really bought any for years. I have never paid much for any of them but have traded for many over the years. I have had customers who are serious collectors and sometimes they buy other peoples collections and what they consider junk looks OK on my fence. I have found a few signs that are very collectable and traded them to collectors, my sign for several signs that made me happy. I sure can't buy them at the prices they bring today.

Looks good, I dont know if you did or not, but behind the very right wall looking at the picture, you might want to block it off if you havent to prevent bird/rat nests in the back of the wall. Just a sugg.

From the view in the first pic, that looks like Cheech Marin up on the ladder.:lol_hitti

I like the new look. It really gives it a nostalgic look to the garage now:thumbup:

Wow Kev that looks absolutely fabulous. Old school wood flavor, nice clean art deco design. That's exactly how I would have wanted it to look if I was doing it myself. Any thoughts on neon? :D

Excellent.

I finished up the redwood molding, that's about all I got done today. I added a couple of flags, one will be replaced with a New Zealand flag as soon as I can get one.

SILVERPLATE.... The only Willard piece I have is this little battery rack/shelf. I bought it many years ago at the Pomona swap meet.

Dan in Pasadena....I'm sure I won't be putting up any real neon but maybe some of these Christmas lights like I recently put on my little gas station canopy...

Kev, Your attention to details is amazing, from the cars and rods, the shop and now the mitered and curved corners on the redwood trim. Wow!

Like the others have been saying, I didn't know something as great as your place can get any better, but it does. I guess it just goes to show us that we are never really done when we are done with a project.

Congrats!

Striper "pretty much the same anyway" is kinda ...insensitive to Kev isn't it since he's FROM New Zealand?

Kev, Those strip Christmas lights look great on your gas island. I didnt expect you to ACTUALLY put in neon. That other stuff might look nice though. Man, you know we ALL love your place, don't you? Hate to admit it, but I've actually dreamt of it as mine!!

lowerod.....No new door, I will be reworking some trim on the current door and re painting it when I can find the time. I did some work on the tensioner and got the bottom edge straighter.

I am working on a friends Willys coupe this weekend, makes for a good photo op. First picture shows the new gate to hide the air compressor and steel rack.

Man, I'll have to admit, I loved the way your garage looked before. Then when you said you were gonna do some updates I thought, oh no, its gonna get messed up. But I'll be damned if you didn't make it look twice as good! I really should've known. Your place and your work always look good Kev!
