Had to cut off a protruding wood screw in a framing project that was right next to a 2x4, hence why the tips of cutter were used. For almost $40 I can say I'm disappointed. Model D2000-48.

they look well used. and are not really for cutting steel wood screws.

My wife did the same with a similar pair, cutting "bonzai" tree wires....

The 2000 series Kleins say they are rated for cutting hardened material. They are only maybe 8 months old. They are used but not beat up, but they rusted almost immediately after taking them out of the package.

Cutters are always walking the line between hard and brittle and slightly more malleable for toughness.

Can you warranty them?

If I'm looking correctly the entire tip of the cutter sheared off....

Might be worth a phone call or a visit...other than that look at knipex for cutters :):

Those say right on the package they're rated to cut hardened materials as you said. They even call out ACSR, screws, nails, hardened wire. Right out there at the tips is gonna be pretty hard on them though but I understand doing what you have to. I'd get them made up and move on with life. I will add though some of these modern screws they're making now are pretty tough! Not like cheap old screws I grew up on. Ever try and cut a small Tapcon or a SPAX construction screw? They'll humiliate most cutters.

I have several pairs of 2000 series Cutting pliers and I've found them to be super tough. They cut things they shouldn't with no damage to the blades.

Im not home now, but I'm going to try and warranty them tonight.

The tips of both knives broke off, correct.

Whether or not I can get them warrantied, I have a pair of Knipex 10" I keep in my home tools. I'll put those in my contractor bag, and keep the Kleins at home.

I have the same set. I have cut many many screws and bolts as well as the rods for power door locks in vehicle doors. Still going strong after 4 years. I think you may have a defective set and this is a perfect example for a warranty claim. I'm sure Klein will replace them if Home Depot doesn't. I also have the 2000 series Lineman pliers. Those are tough as well. If I'm unsure about if the will cut or not I bust out the Knipex mini bolt cutters. I also wouldn't take them out of the bag. Try them again after warranty. I'm telling you I can't break mine.

Klein tools have a lifetime warranty. Not sure if HD will warranty them or not. You might have to look online on the Klein website... Places like Fastenal will, and electrical supply stores... Worst case you mail it in and they mail you a replacement.

I had a pair of electrical cutters / strippers that wern't even a year old. They were fine for stripping wire and cutting solid wire. But any time I cut stranded they wouldn't cut all of them and I could never get a clean cut. Took to a local electrical place and they swapped it out and I didn't even have to fill out any paperwork.

It looks like you cut a few live circuits with the dykes. I doubt Klein would warranty them.

I once did the exact same damage to a new pair of Channellock 449's cutting a CV boot banding clamp. I was surprised how easily they broke given that I've been using diagonal side cutters this way for years and years. I called up Channellock and described exactly how I broke them and they agreed this task should have been well within their capabilities. They had me send them in and I even included the offending clamp and let them make the decision. They must have agreed because I received a brand new pair after a couple weeks which I have undoubtedly cut several CV boot clamps with.

Like I said before, Klein will warranty them, either directly or go to one of the stores when you do a search on their website (probably best to call to see if they have in stock if you want them right away).

My dad had an ancient pair of Klein's, a model they no longer made. I think the handle broke or they just came apart. Klein still warrantied them out and mailed him back a brand new similar model.

Aii yii yii.

Send them in to Klein. Let us know.

If it was steel, I would use my nines. If I had them with me. Just saying.

I have always used Channel Lock. I've never had them break.

What is up with the people responding to this thread that can't read? Try cutting hardened anything with channellocks, and let me know how that goes.

On a positive note, HD exchanged them.
