I have an early 1970's Klein tape measure that while using it today, the retract spring steel broke and would not retract.

The measure tape is still in good condition, but the spring steel is so brittle that simply bending it slightly will break it, and the outer edges crack and leave very sharp edges.

I went to Klein website and this is so old it doesn't even show in their discontinued catalog.

Anyone know of a source of the retract spring?

It is my favorite tape, was anyway. It is a model 922 (not 922-10) and is 10'. Not sure how long the spring is/was.

Thanks in advance

The spring was nothing but a bunch of shards when I opened the case up.

The shape of that case looks extremely similar to the Stanley power lock II's from the 70s and 80s. Same yellow button and everything. Maybe track down one of those as they are much more common.
