I was at Home Depot tonight looking around and I came across a nice Klein demolition screwdriver. I decided to buy one because I've been looking for a tough screwdriver like this for awhile now and I already love Klein's quality. Anyone else try them yet?

I bought a set because I was always using the largest flatnose in my pouch to punch out knockouts in boxes and found I was destroying far too many of my good Klein screwdrivers, so this seemed like the perfect solution.

Definitely happy with the purchase thus far

I see them at all the distributors but have not purchased any. I keep a couple beaters for this purpose, and I do not like how the metal runs all the way through. Some idiot is gonna work on a live panel and blow their hand off.

Been using large CMs for that purpose.
The tips'll break (a rarity) long before the handle gives up.
Sears has never given me a prob swapping 'em out - missing tips, battered handles n all.
CM's initial cost is really hard to beat.... why send more for another mfg's screwdriver that prolly will fail faster than the CMs?

Why buy the proper tool designed for the job you're doing instead of misuse/abuse on another tool? :wtf::headscrat

I don't need one of these because I don't hammer on my screwdrivers, but if I was doing knockouts and such I'd probably get one.

I really just wanted a go to screwdriver that I could use hard and not have to worry about it. I'll probably never give it more that a light tap if anything.

Jeff, I'll keep this far away from my electrical screwdrivers. :D

Don't do much electrical work (knockouts, lock nuts, Nema 7 threaded fittings, other screwdriver unfriendly tasks)?
Don't use Kleins to 'tap' things like screwdrivers either?

Betcha designers of big ol' screwdrivers and lineman pliers long ago
knew the 'abuse' the tools would be subjected to and designed accordingly.
The mfgs may not advertise it directly but grab one and look closely....

*big ol' grin*

Oh, anyone have odds as to how long before/how many facilities 'discourage' the usage of these and other thru handle shaft screwdrivers because of the potential safety hazard - electrocution?
There have been stranger 'bans' over the years....

I suppose you could heat treat any old junk driver if you knew how to do that properly to get the wearability you want. Or, just use a junk driver til it's used up, lather, rinse, repeat.

. . . I do not like how the metal runs all the way through. Some idiot is gonna work on a live panel and blow their hand off.

That's exactly what I was thinking about when I saw it.
I hammer on my screwdrivers all the time to loosen and tighten nuts on knockouts, but if for some reason the screwdriver slipped and touched a live wire, I'd at least know that if I'm not holding the shaft, I'm insulated. This is kind of scary.

Honestly, I haven't bent a shaft doing this yet, and the plastic that Klein uses is not prone to shattering on impact with a hammer, unlike Chinese tools. A few battle scars, who cares.

I won't be anywhere near anything electrical when I use this screwdriver. You guys bring up some really good points. I still think for my needs it is going to be just fine...

We had Klien come over the summer to work and show off some new tools they want us to buy and that was one of them. They took that screwdriver and drove it through the asphalt parking lot. I cant wait for them to get approved so we can order them.

Some jobs require you to use them as a hammer. I very rarely use my screwdriver as a screwdriver, but rather prybar, or beat in to a pole to hold wire/various item up.

****, now I need to go to home depot.

I took the baby out of the package today and it is stout! I would highly recommend picking one up. I see it as my go to screwdriver for sure. I have to remove some slotted screws and caulking and I think I have the perfect tool. :D

Klein had an advertisement that showed the demolition driver pounded into a wooden utility pole, holding up a lineman's toolbag...

Jeffmoss, we do that now with thier insulated screwdrivers. We drive them in with a hammer or pliers. We hold phases/neutral in place with them
