Good morning fellow GJ friends.

I'm looking at picking up a new multimeter and my budget just isn't going to allow for the almighty Fluke. With that in mind, I've looked at a billion diferent meters and I think that for general automotive and simple around the home use, the Klein MM200 looks to fit the bill at a reasonable price point.

So what say you? I'd like to hear the good, the bad and the ugly.

Happy Saturday GJers

I have the MM2000 and its been nothing short of great. I also have the CL2000 clamp meter and its been great as well. I highly recommend Klein meters. Great bang for the buck.

Are you just an audio enthusiast or are you in the business? I see the Steve Mead unit and what looks like an old RF DSM series amp from the mid 90s.

I worked in the Car Audio business for 5 years in the early 1990's b4 going into the communication field as a Technical Operations Manager at Comcast for 14 years. While at Comcast I ended up also working in the firearms industry and then migrated to Law Enforcement permanently in 2011.

The Heat sink you see is in fact from a Power Series amplifier.

Without jacking this thread you might get a kick out of what that heat sink is now:

I got out of the biz for a few years and did low voltage and AV and system design. Was even CTS-I certified. Then like the mafia just when you try to leave it pulls you back in. Im now on the manufacturer side of the biz. Much less stressful on the body.

I'm an industrial electrician and use them daily, I have the MM2000, MM6000 and the CL2500.

Several other of the staff electricians have MM1300s, and CL1000

The MM200 is the entry level DVM, it looks fine for home owners and somebody working on a car/truck, weekend warrior

I have had the MM2000 and the Cl2000 for 3 years now. The Cl2000 is the best value ac/dc clamp meter out there. For 109.99 for the 2000 and It's true rms. And for $139 for the true rms clamp meter really good meters for the money. And the MM2000 replaced a fluke that broke. I want to get the MM6000 soon.

Yeah I will be breaking the MM200 out tomorrow to see how it does. As much as I like the Flukes (what we used at the dealership I worked at) I just can't see spending that kind of money at home. Frankly I'd rather put some of that money towards my hand tool improvement funds.

Until you get involved with craziness like this the kleins will be more than enough. At this point 3 - 4 flukes are needed. And notice the kleins are still there, that's cause they are solid meters!

Klein makes some nice meters, but I would not get the MM200. At Home Depot, the MM1000 is only $10 more, and the differences are huge. The MM1000 is a way better meter than the 200, and well worth the extra $10. It is a whole new class of meter.

Spend the extra $10. You'll be sorry in a few months, if you don't.

Oh, I see I'm late with my advice, and you already bought the 200. Trust me, take it back. Home Depot will take it back no questions asked. You mention using Flukes, and the MM1000 will give you a "Fluke like experience" for way less money. The 200 will not. It is for the home owner that will use it once a year. Take it back, and get the 1000.

I don't own the MM200. But, I own the MM100 which has the same size and display of the 200. I also have the MM5000, which has the same display as the MM1000. Look at these 2 meters side by side. No comparison. The 1000 will be SO much nicer than the 200.

If my Home Depot had the MM 1000 I'd gladly
Pay the extra 10 bucks. Problem is, they don't have squat for inventory.

Maybe I can get them to order it though.

I did use the meter this weekend and the MM 200 isn't a bad meter at all. I actually like it. I like the rubber on the meter better than the shop flukes we used.
