Klein NCVT-2 acting strange...

So I'm troubleshooting strings of x-mas lights and I'm using the NCVT to locate the problem bulbs in the strands. The VT will seem to act fine and reliably detect current, then It will get flaky and seem not to detect consistently at all when nothing has changed. Also it will beep when shaken or tapped on my hand.

I've made sure the polarity in the strand is correct for doing this task, it's just that it will seem to detect current with a strong and reassuring signal then it will intermittently beep and flash like it's sputtering. Anyone had similar issues with their NCVT?

I went to HD and got a new one thinking mine is on the fritz, this new one seems to act the same way. I'll test a perfectly lit set of lights and get a strong signal then somewhere along the way it will act crazy...

might not be able to separate the conductors but when you can cup your hand around the wire you want to check. Your body will shield any interference

Has anyone had any sketchy behavior from this tool? Klein makes good stuff...

Could be interference but when I tap the unit it beeps once. Maybe it’s just me...

I have one of these and it acts similarly giving me false readings and acting up. I like it's features better, but ended up buying a Fluke which has been more reliable for me.

I have an NCVT-2 as well as a Fluke and a Southwire. I’ve never used any to check christmas lights, but none of them have ever given me an issue. The Klein is my go to tester, and the Fluke is used occasionally.
