Klein Wire tracers

I ordered a Klein Wire Tracer from amazon for $110 (Klein VDV500-820) but while I was at Home Depot today I saw a Klein wire tracer for $55 (Klein VDV500-705), I bought the cheaper one thinking I would send the other back. Now I have both sitting on my counter and I am trying to figure out if there is any significant difference that would warrant keeping the more expensive one.

I'm not an Electrician but do a fair bit of electrical so I don't mind keeping the better tool but I'm having a hard time seeing what the quantifiable difference is.

Can anyone help clarify what the difference is and help with an opinion on which would be best to keep. Thanks

I work in the telecom industry and use one of these everyday. I normally use a fluke or greenlee but I also have the VDV500-820. Not sure why it cost so much I bought mine at Home Depot for $70. Me personally I would prefer the 820 mainly because the leads are built in and I wouldn’t have to worry about losing the little jumper on the 705. Also the alligator clips are a lot better on the 820 I use small wire and the bed of nails helps a lot. Also IMO the probe is also better on the 820. The 705 has a very basic cat5 tester built in but I would use a separate tester for that purpose. If your are not going to use this often then it probably doesn’t matter which you use.

The price difference is likely due to it being Canadian $$$$

The price difference is probably just the bells and whistles. The better leads etc. I used a mismatched set of old greenlee tone generator and Ideal probe my Dad passed down to me for years until I found a fluke for a good deal so either one should work fine.

You do know these are designed for low voltage wire like data, phone lines, cable.

I do realize they are primarily for low voltage wire but my understanding is it will work for electrical wire as well.
