Hi my Grandfather gave me this knife a few weeks ago and he told me the blade is messed up a bit from bad sharpening. Can anyone identify the knife, and can I take it to a shop to fix the blade? And if do does anyone have a recommendation in the LA area?

Thanks.

The knife is a Kabar 1207 as seen in your picture. Pretty sure it was a common item among military personnel in the 60-70's to pick up on their own (don't think it was any type of issued item). I would think a good shop could work some magic on it and make it workable again. No idea about shops in your area though.

Hey,

We have a few knife makers here perhaps you could ask one if they would be willing to fix it up for you for a small cost and the cost of mailing it to them..

Messed up? Nah, it almost looks like a standard utility bevel. Easily fixable. It might take a while though.

The tip dent really show in pictures. The tip is bent to the right and catches on everything it pulls against like the sheath. Here is another picture of the blade to show the damage a bit better.

This might be a dumb question but do you have any gun and knife shows in your area? There's several shows around here and they all have at least one if not two professional knife sharpeners that can work damage out of a blade. They will sharpen about anything for about $5. Swords, machetes and axes extra.

I don't think so, CA is pretty anti-gun :lol_hitti

Yeah, I kind of figured. It was worth mentioning though.

Time to buy yourself a good tri hone sharpening stone and teach yourself to wet sharpen a knife. It will be frustrating at first but you will learn a skill that is dying among Men and will serve you well your whole life.

That knife is worth fixing and is a great one to learn on. A course stone and lots of lube will fix the tip first. Knife and tool sharpening is a fading skill. I've tried many sharpening "systems" but I do my best work the way I was taught. On a stone.

I can sharpen a knife, I sharpen all of mine on a stone my Grandpa gave me, this one is just damaged. And I do love that I can sharpen a knife on a stone, but I'm not good enough to repair damage.
