Hello guys, I just noticed that my 10" plier wrench from knipex is not closing even. The jaws are offset.. It's not a big deal but i want to know if that's normal. Can you post a pic with your plier wrenches? Have a great day! :D

This is one I just pulled off the shelf, still in the package.

Mine is similar, may not be as offset as pictured. I have used them and I have noticed absolutely nothing wrong with their functionality. They are an awesome tool.

This thread got me wondering so I just checked mine, 86 05 250 model, about 2 years old...

Ive never noticed any issue but on very close inspection there is a very slight (less than 1mm) side to side play. Looking at it for a while, and working the mechanism a few times, it occurred to me that this is by design. Any tighter and the moveable jaw wouldn't be able to move.

Anyway, seems like about as tight as tolerance as it can get without binding.

Back to the pegboard they go...

Thanks for your quick replies.
@vibblueser, if you move the bottom jaw with your fingers it has the same play like mine?

I dont think so I would have to check, Either way I wouldnt worry about it affecting the function of the tool.

I am not an OCD type guy but if I paid retail for them and they had more play then others on the shelf, I would want to exchange them. If the others had about the same play, then no biggie.

Not normal. Get them warranty. I tried taking same angles as your pictures so you can see no gap and very minimal jaw off-set. No movement with finger either. e3700478c96ab67a83fdb0b2b524972f.jpg6c2dbb4f11d7cce47ca30d56eaad0846.jpg7c59ef8cb72ef625ed99e6e8a12f992b.jpg82509fecfdfe750087138747b4a896bc.jpg

I bought my 10" Pliers wrench from Menards, they had 4 on the shelf and 2 had excessive slop like op's. I picked best of 4, which was the 3rd one back.

Did the slop develop or was this out of the box? The first pick looks off, the other pics in this thread--even with a bit of play all look normal-ish. If something is bent you should get a warranty on it.

Its kind of a warning tho to not use this thing like a vise or to hammer stuff with, tho. its not designing to take off-axis torqu or impact blows. It is a wrench after all !

The wrench is new and not used. The play it's normal, but it should close even. Looks like the problem is at the tip of the bottom jaw, which is not grinded properly on the edge and it pushes the jaw to the side. One more problem is that the jaws touch themselves just at the tip because the bottom jaw is a little curved and it pushes the jaw to the side. It does not affect the functionality of the wrench at all. If that will bother me i will try to file the little bump.

Btw, you are right with the quality control issues of knipex. At almost every knipex pair of pliers i own i can find a defect, but they still rock, and my collection is growing :).
