I'd rather pick up the cobras, they aren't priced much higher than the alligators.

yea - i went alligator instead. there are less postions to mess with, the alligators dont seem to stick between positions, and the adjustment button on the cobra's protrude and would make it harder to insert back into my klein lineman pouch. if you like the option of more adjustment and dont mind fine tuning - then the cobra's might be a better option - however, there is also nothing that can break on the alligator pliers..

I've looked at those Alligators for a while now. Only Knipix I've got are some 8" diagonal cutters and they are great. Are the Alligators/Cobras truly "that much better" than traditional Channellock style pliers? I don't need a lot of persuading to get me to buy a pair.....

it depends.. are they a whole new world of tool? no. but the head is alot thinner, allowing more access.. it uses a box joint so there is no, and wont be any play between the sections.. also - they offer a v grove jaw, but the "v" opening is smaller than most other brands, so they will let you handle much smaller bolts or nuts with a standard 10" pump plier.. the handles seem thinner, the tool is also lighter, and the action is unbelievable smooth.. the 10" alligators were my first knipex purchase, and i was really impressed with them.. i think i played with them all night.. lol

here- you can see the different joint used in this picture..

also - if you prefer the cobra's - craftsman and Klein also sell them rebranded under their own names, so that should tell you something..

amazon has 21 reviews of the 10" alligator pliers, 17 are 5star, 3 are 4star, and 1 - 3star

Thanks, I have been persuaded! Looked at the Craftsman version as well. Oddly, at my local store, they run a bit more than the Knipix branded ones. Guess it's the warranty being factored in. Thanks for all the info!
