Knipex and channellock clearanced at lowes

I was at lowes today and noticed the majority of these pliers in the electrical section were marked down with clearance tags. Not the new lower price yellow tags. I have my eye on the knipex insulated tool set for 79.99 down from 100. Anyone else notice this? Wonder if they are bringing in a new brand or just updating the assortmant of the current vendors

At my local Lowes, as they have sold all the Knipex, they have been removing their tags completely. Looks like they may stop carrying them.

My local store is just about cleaned out... About all they have left are some 10"ish Alligators and some lineman pliers.

Knipex is priced over Lowes' general market, so I was surprised when they started carrying them, and am surprised that they lasted this long. Seeing that Lowes couldn't make Klein work, it seems like bringing in an even higher priced line, that doesn't have near the brand recognition that Klein does wasn't the brightest move.... It was nice to be able to buy them locally though. I hope we get some good deals from this though, I'm still enjoying the Klein stuff I picked up 4ish years ago when Lowes dropped the Klein line; similar process, 20ish% discounts, for a while till inventory was pretty much gone, then some slightly better deals to finish out the odd ball tools remaining.

Knipex is one of the best pliers brands out there. I consider their dikes to be better than Snap-On ones.

Made in Germany is just as good as Made in USA, IMO.

I would offer that made in der Fatherland is probably consistently better than USA... The last couple of made in US CM ratchets I had were horrible. You probably will not find much junk Hazet or Stahlwille...

A bit of advice on the Lowes Knipex stuff. If you have multiple Lowes in your area, check the online pricing between the various stores. In my area, the six different Lowes had the Knipex stuff at different prices for the various item.

I hope they expand the channellock offerings if they are getting rid of knipex. I hope they don't expand greenlee. Maybe bring back Klein? Doubt that. They need something better quality than the Kobalt **** pliers. I may just have to ****** up some knipex. I did notice a few weeks ago they were selling Crescent branded pliers on Lowes.com. They were not a market place item they were being sold by lowes. I hope that's not the replacement. Loos like Home Depot will get my business for any new pliers.

I would offer that made in der Fatherland is probably consistently better than USA... The last couple of made in US CM ratchets I had were horrible. You probably will not find much junk Hazet or Stahlwille...

To be fair, Hazet and Stahlwille are not really in the same market as Craftsman. Compare Craftsman to some of Gedore's cheaper brands, then you'll have similar tools.

I went by earlier in the week, and got a few yellow-tag things. For Knipex, I got a pair of 10" high leverage cutters for $23.71, and the 8" combination pliers (they are very nice) for $12.98. I thought they were good prices for Knipex.

I also picked up a pair of Channel Lock 318 long nose pliers for $17, and a nice 24 oz. Vaughn double sided rubber mallet (w/tips) on clearance for $12.64 (I'm sure they are clearing out the high quality, made in USA Vaughn product to make way for the higher-margin China specials...). All in all, some decent deals.

Fair enough, but my point still stands... Germans seem to be more consistently worried about QC than we are. Americans make some of the best tools, but can also make some garbage as well...

With Klien,,, sooner or later many have everything they need. Just around the time Home Depot was sporting them I was in a buy mode for a couple years, couple new ones filtered in on each project, eventually it was all newer, the work slowed up, left with a long stretch where we simply got what we need. I really got to look for a place to buy a new hand tool.

I checked out a pair of 8" high leverage Knipex dykes for $14, but passed for now. Im sure I will be back soon enough to pick them up though! I really wanted the cable cutters but they were only marked down to $23.

Knipex 10" Cobras were $26 at Lowes last weekend.

Nice sale but not a clearence price by any means.

Maybe once Lowes stores go to the "tool prison" model then most high end tools will go bye-bye.

I was in Home Depot the other day, and went over to look at the Klein tools. Noticed an empty plastic sleeve where somebody yanked out the set of the needle nose pliers. Shoplifters ****! no wonder these store are putting in more and more "tool jails..."

You aren't kidding! After reading your post, I checked the five nearest ones to me: there is a $10 spread in prices among stores for 10" Cobras.

I bought some 8" Knipex diagonal cutters at Lowes a couple of weeks ago. The price was marked down about 30% and they rang up another 10% lower than the clearance price!



I check the electrical tool aisle whenever I go to Lowes.

Lowes online website doesn't show the complete selection or current pricing of Knipex in the four stores near me.

You should compair hazet and stahlwillie to snap-on is more like it. Not craftsman or even sk.

They had no choice in the matter. Klein signed an exclusivity agreement with Home Depot.

My lowes has what few Vaughan hammers they sell on ~25% clearance and are replacing them with more expensive Chinese hammers...
