Whats the main difference between Knipex 71 01 200 and 71 31 200? The only difference I see is that the 71 31 200 have a notched blade. Anyone have experience using one or both? Which one should I get?

I'm looking to get either one. Price is one thing. The other far as I can figure is the notched one does bigger diameter bolts.

I would assume that the non notched ones would give a cleaner and quicker cut. The notched ones you would have to do a second cut to chop through the area that the notch didnt cut. Or am I looking at it wrong?

The notch is to allow larger diameter cuts. Usually, when you're cutting something so large, it just snaps with so little material left. There's plently of blade length left uneffected by the notch that you can cut with too. So, either way, you don't have to worry about cutting everything twice.

If you plan to cut anything 3/16 or bigger, I would get the notched version.
With mine, I find the second bite on bigger stock is where the notch shines.

These guys are exactly right. The 71 31 200, as per Knipex: "the recess in the blade allows easier cutting of thicker wires" I have attached a close-up picture so you can see both.

Cutting small bolts? :ducks:

More seriously, I got mine when I was removing an old patio door and wanted to cut some nails that were holding it in, but the heads were under the siding. Also great for cutting wire shelving and removing ear clamps that are just a bit too thick/tough for dikes.

I keep mine on my boat in an emergency medical kit. Having the barb of a large treble hook driven into my hand while another barb was still attached to a large flopping fish is an experience I'll never forget. At the time, I didn't carry anything with me capable of cutting a hook. The Emergency Room Doc lectured me on the importance of being able to free myself, or someone else, when things go wrong. The bolt cutters provide great peace of mind. Never on the boat without them.
