Knipex Cobra or like pliers...

So I have been debating on getting some Knipex Cobra pliers. From what you guys have said, pliers are very worthwhile! I noticed that there are other brands such as Irwin pliers or Husky, both of which look very similar with similar jaw features and ratcheting mechanism. I know the knipex are german made and the Husky's are Taiwan. Any one know what the coo of the irwin pliers? I checked Irwin's site but don't see any coo info. I would like to purchase U.S. made pliers if possible. Any one have any recommendations?

i believe the COO on the irwins is PRC. go for the knipex cobras. they are awesome. anything else is but an imitation. you won't regret it.

Channellock USA, maybe another option Craftsman has a version of those Kinpex pliers, they IIRC are German made as well. May be a bit cheaper.

Correct, the Craftsman are rebadged Knipex. I got the 7" & 10" set on sale for less than $30 a few weeks ago.

If you want USA made Channellock grip lock I think they are called. Home Depot sells a 2pc set for like $24. The knipex I'm sure are better. Do not buy the Irwin's. I had them and they sucked. They would twist under load. I may pick up the Channellock version to try out. For $24 and USA made for 2 sets can't go wrong.

It almost seems if you cut the black grips off the craftsman adjustable pliers, you would end up with the Knipex pliers. May even have the part numbers underneath...

The photo on the Sears site is of the previous model. The ones they're selling are exactly the same as the current Knipex Cobras

I saw those at Sears and spent some time inspecting them. I'd say they're a poor representation of Knipex Cobras. They're nowhere near the quality of Knipex. The most obvious differences is in the joint. The joint is very sloppy and cause the jaws to wiggle around all over the place. If Knipex does make them, then I'd say they did a very good job of sabotaging their own product before stamping 'Craftsman' on them.

They are identical to the red handled Knipex Cobras.

I have both.

Don't buy them then, but your premise is not rooted in any truth but your own. And it's misguided.


As for the Irwins. I have them. I hate them. $12 two pair Black Friday deal. They just sit in the dwr.

Knipex is the OE of the craftsman pliers.

That has to be an old picture, I have not seen the craftsman but the knipex for the last 3-4 years have had the finer tooth adjustment those pictured are the old course tooth adjustment

Definitely recommend the knipex cobras. In my opinion the best pliers u can get. Also have some channellock griplocks an they are really good as well

I have a pair of the Milwaukee pliers and they are just as good as the Knipex I have also.
