Knipex Cobra vs S-Type Pipe Wrench

Is there a reason a person would take one over the other in larger sizes, say 400mm? To me they look like they are essentially the same thing.

I have no experience with the second one but it looks like by setting the jaw on the “bottom” handle, it would lock the object inside the jaw. Because once it’s closed around the object, the top handle could only move up, tightening it more. Looks like it only really loosens with the push button and sliding the jaw open and down.

It looks like if cobra pliers had a baby with vise grips.

I have a couple of the "old" style Knipex "Swedish" pipe wrenches in smaller sizes. If you look at your picture above, or at the link below, the jaws are different on the ones intended for pipe- the teeth are more aggressive compared to a Cobra, and the jaw layout is different- the Cobra has smooth, or almost smooth jaw portions in comparison. So, the Cobra, which is more intended for nuts, is going to slip easier on something smooth like pipe, where the pipe wrench will dig in- IMO.
