Planning on buying a small pair of combination pliers to carry in my jean pockets on the farm and have been seriously considering the Knipex 03-05-160 and was wondering how well the chrome plating holds up on this line of Knipex pliers. Never owned a pair of Knipex, I'm usually a Klein/Channel Lock pliers guy.

Check out the Knipex pliers wrench. I have the 10" and they are my go to "magic wrench". There are different sizes, the 7" might be really handy for you.

I have the combo set of Pliers Wrench and Cobra Mini in a belt pouch. This combo does not have the wire cutting capability, but handles just about every other plier/wrench related task pretty well.

I do have to thank you for bringing up those 03-05-160's. Now I am going to have to order a pair.

Ordered a pair of the 03-05-160.
Let us know how you like them, I didn't know they made a mini-Linesman. I have the mini-Pliers Wrench in the leg pocket of my Carhartts at work, and use it every day. Not sure if I need a mini-Linesman Pliers, but it'd be cool to see how they work out for you.

The comfort handles are comfy, but somewhat bulky and w/ a touch more weight. The chrome seems pretty durable on them. The grips iadds a touch of length/leverage which may come in handy using a downsized length. Those are probably a nice pair for your needs overall.

If you need something to fit in a pocket, the dipped grip version is also worth considering due to lower profile slips in/out easier. Somethin like the side pocket on a pair of carharts, for example, is a touch tight...so OP may want to test out how it works there with bigger grips (or whatever his pocket type is like).

I have a few Knipex tools in chrome, and the plating holds up just fine. I'd always avoided plated pliers in the past, but I tried a pair in my work bag and there were no issues. Since then I've even bought cutters in chrome!

You're far better off with decent pliers and a decent knife than expecting too much from a multitool. Cheaper too!

Makes me wonder why Klein stopped making their mini linesman pliers.

But there's no chrome on these, so they'd rust in your pocket.

I wish I knew. Got them over 20 years ago at a flea market and plasti-dipped the handles. They're one of my favorites, but they have no numbers on them.

They're 5 1/2" long.

I usually carry a 6" crescent in my pocket. In the past it was a Channellock 426. Both have come in very handy numerous times starting to fix things while others are running for the toolboxes.

I certainly don't have a Decaf sized Knipex collection, but I do have a few, and I don't think you can go wrong with Knipex tools.

The Knipex pliers have been received. They look good and the movement is very smooth, however they do have a couple small tool marks on the end of the jaws. Looking forward to using them. Here's a couple pictures.
