I'm looking for ratcheting crimping pliers for automotive work (classic cars, mostly). KNIPEX has a lot of interesting stuff, but there's so much to choose that I'm getting confused a bit. :D

There are at least these four options:

97 33 MultiCrimp

97 43 Crimp System Pliers

97 52 PreciForce

97 52 Crimping Pliers also for two-hand operation

One feature that seems really helpful is a locator:

The MultiCrimp looks interesting, but the assortment of dies looks a limited compared to the 97 43 Crimp System and there are no locators available. Also, I have my doubts about the longevity of the quick-change system.

The Crimp System looks perfect to me. Every die you could possibly want, sturdy build and the option to mount a locator. I could even crimp spark plug cables with them. Is there any reason not to go with these?

The PreciForce and two-hand operated pliers look nice too. What is the difference between them? The assortment of dies is again limited compared to the Crimp System but locators are available. Why would anyone prefer one of those to the Crimp System? Is it purely cost?

Is there something I've missed? Are there better crimping pliers on the market? Would like to buy something that I can use for as many terminal styles as possible.

They look promising. I got a set of ratcheting wire crimping pliars, they have interchange jaws. I use them with a 3m brand heat shrink terminal. Take a mini torch or heat gun and shrink the terminal after crimping it. Never had one loose connection. Takes a little longer but worth the effort

Heat shrink terminals are awesome in each and every aspect! They don't really belong on classic cars though. ;)

I've been wondering about the same thing when browsing the knipex site. It's difficult to see the advantages/uses of one plier over the other. Hope someone knowledgeable will chime in!

Also, how do these compare to their Rennsteig counterparts?

They look very similar, except for that black thing underneath the handle. What is that exactly?

Also, they even have this bench mount available:

Are the dies interchangeable between Rennsteig and KNIPEX?

Can different dies be purchased for the 97 52 series crimpers? Looks like they unscrew easily.

Interested because I found a set of 97 52 19 crimpers for dirt cheap, but the included dies are not that useful to me.
