Saw a pair of knipex 1396200 6-in-1 electrician installation pliers. Are these better than getting separate combination, needle nose and crimping pliers? Or is this more of convenience?

I have the Euro spring VDE and American dipped version. They are excellent pliers and are the polar opposite to traditional Linesman Pliers.

The Installation Pliers are narrower and capable of quickly stripping insulation, whereas typical Linesman Pliers can cut harder and have a fish tape puller. The cable cutter feature is really invaluable and the tip is not serrated which helps prevent marring wire.

The spring design is good and cumbersome. It will keep the jaws open a bit, but cannot fully close, this makes it slightly difficult to store in a bag.

Had these for 3 years now and they are pretty decent. They don't do the best job in anyone task but are versatile

I bought a pair when they first came out (the normal, non-insulated ones) and I don't think I have ever used them...lol

I like them. Most of the wire stripping I do is for different gauge wire than they are capable of though.

I prefer the Klein All Purpose Plier. A little larger but they have more wire stripper sizes and a spring loaded handle. The downside is they don't have a lock for the handle so I wrap a piece of Velcro around them to keep em' closed when they're in my pouch.

That is one thing keeping me from buying them, they can't strip 4mm thick wire.
Another is that even if I have a 4 plier set-up for electrical work, with the built-in features of these pliers I would still need 3: proper stripper, this one and an ordinary pair of pliers to hold the cable bundle while twisting it together- I like to solder my connection points, not a fan of mechanical connections.

I think some of you guy might be missing the point of these pliers. They are for installing residential electrical systems in homes. That's why they have stripes for 12 and 14 ga wire only.

4mm is not uncommon in residential electrical systems in Europe.
