If you could only order one size which one would you get and why...my uses would be a mix of automotive and everyday household stuff( kids bikes stuff like that) I'm leaning towards the 10 but who knows I might save for the 3 piece set

I have 7", 10", and 12" ones and the 10" is what I use most, then 7", and least used is the 12".

At work, I use the 7" everyday. The jaws can expand up to 1" too. The 10" comes in handy as well but if I had to pick 1 it'd be the 7"

If I were you, I would run around the house and take a few quick measurements to see what max size plier opening you will need for the things you do most. Then buy the smallest plier wrench that opens to the max size you need, so you can then fit into the tightest areas possible with it. I have a feeling that if you do this you will probably end up getting the 10" size if you are thinking about the same household tasks that I think about.

I now have 2 of each in the 7", 10", and 12" size, but I started out with a single 10" pliers wrench and it worked well for almost everything I encountered. I used it for about a year before I decided to invest in the other plier wrenches. Now I have more flexibility and stronger wrenches for bigger jobs, and smaller pliers for tighter areas, but the single 10" can do a lot by itself.

One thing I would recommend is to get the comfort handled version only if you will be doing repetitive tasks over and over. Get the regular dipped handle version if you will be doing lots of individual quicker small projects with it. The comfort handles are nice, but they are also rather bulky and thick, and there is no real benefit to justify the extra cost if you are not using the pliers for very long each time they are used. I only have the comfort handles for one of my 2 pairs of 10" pliers wrenches. All the rest are dipped handles. For me, that overall setup is the most versatile and cost effective.

Re: Knipex pliers wrench

I've got a 6" (150 mm) 86-05-150 that I special ordered from GJ member Ash. It fits nicely in the Knipex two-pliers belt pouch. Comes in handy at work.

I use the 10" for work. I even stopped carrying a Crescent wrench in my work tools.

I only have the 10", so I'm stuck with that ! Excellent pliers though and much more.

Me too. At the time I didn't know the 12" existed and the 7", looked to small for my needs. I'm not much for gimmick tools which this really is not, but damn I love it.

3yo thread, but same question- what size do you folks use the most?

Seems like the 7" and 10" have similar recommendations.

I'm looking at trying a pair, but would like to buy smart.

I've only got the 150, but it opens up to 1 & 1/8th", so it's pretty versatile.

I don't think I'd need a bigger one unless I need more leverage or a wider opening.

I was wrong..., three years later, along with the 150, I also have the 180 and a 250. Great tools.

I originally got the 10 inch and use that quite a bit, but once I got the 7-inch I use that almost exclusively now unless it's a very large fastener

I bought the 10" for a specific plumbing job and I like it. Definitely a well made tool and it certainly met my expectations for the price. Since then, I haven't really used it much because it's bigger than I need for most projects I find myself doing. I think I'd get more general use out of the 7" based on the things I do and the stuff I tinker with.

I have them all but I keep the 10 on my bench. It works for almost everything all the time

The 10 inch is probably the most versatile, but for me the 5'' gets the most use since it's in my pocket 100% of the time I'm at work. Saves me about a dozen walks back to my tool box every day. I have the 5", 7", 10" and 12".

I have the 6" (150mm) and 10" (250mm). I use them both, though 6" fits in a pocket so is more readily available. 10" comes out when I need a tighter grip or more torque.
