Knipex question

i went to sears yesterday. i saw a knipex plier. but it didn't have a joint like all the ones i see online = they have teeth. the ones i saw had a joint like this set

whats up with that ?

i want to get a new plier like this, with the non straight jaws. to replace the japan no name that have been working well enough.

Knipex Alligator pliers.

Sears now carries the 7", 10" and 12" sizes.

Funny thing is the Knipex Made in Germany brand is cheaper than the identically designed Sears Craftsman brand at my local stores. Ironic.

ahhh, ok. then, which is better ? the cobra or the gator ? are there any other good alternatives that have that type of jaw ?
they will be in a working box.

also. i understand that snap-on has these one there truck. how do theirs prices compare ?

I asked this question a few weeks back.

Cobra's seem to be the better alternative due to the push button adjustment system, but they are often hard to find locally to most folks and are usually ordered online. If *********, you really want a set of both Alligators and cobras.

The jaw design itself between the Alligators and Corbras are identical. It's teh adjustment/locking system that differs.

If your Snap-On driver has these on his truck, just compare the Sears price or the chadstoolbox.com price to what he's selling them for. Unless on a monthly special, the Snappy driver seldom has "deals" that beat big-box store prices. He may match something like that $$$-wise and that would be win-win as you get a reasonable price plus the warrantee thru your driver (or he will likely assist you if any problems-if a good driver).

For alternatives, it's up to you. Knipex and NWS are as good as it gets for many of their tools. They're pretty damn good if not the best out there. And I mean DAMN good.

i didn't know sears had that style. they didn't have any on the shelf. knipex and irwin only.
i liked the irwins, but i seem to remember, perhaps wrongly, that irwin isn't any good.

i'm not *********. i want good value.

ya know. i don't like asking the drivers how much their stuff is, and then not buying. makes me feel guilty, as i know they are just trying to make a living.
but i have no choice but to get the best value i can. i am not made out of money. but, if his price is competitive, i will be glad to give him my money.

american lockpicker can confirm this but I believe the Craftsman Pro alligator plier are what I remember seeing.


As for buying Knipex, it's a quality tool .

As for buying off the truck, it's up to you. I;ve had a good guy as a Snap-On driver for half a decade +. (Loved my Mac driver til he went AWOL.)
I've gotten awesome deals buying his trade-in tools and boxes from other stops, but his new tools prices are what they are. The monthly flier has deals, but all in all, if you need a tool to make a living, buy it.
I never see it a problem to ask for a price, but if things are not in your budget then buy what you can from whom you can.
Much like a roach coach/food truck, you pay a premium for a service coming to you and matching up with your schedule at their expense.
It's part of the world of being in business. And I seldom and scoff or take light of that fact.

Convenience and on-site service has its price.

Actually it's the cobras.
Craftsman rebranded two sizes of knipex cobras that sell at about the same price as the knipex branded ones.
The benefit is that you can just walk in and get a new craftsman pair quite easily (that is if somehow you can get them to break.)
The craftsman ones do indicate made in Germany on the tool.
