Knipex Slim Knips

Funny, I just learned about these last night from a video that popped up in my YT feed. They were in the thumbnail for the video so I had to watch.

They look like they would be very useful for me at work, I work with a lot of wiring. But being new I figured they will probably be be expensive & more than I am willing to pay so I never bothered to look them up. Heck I won't even pay the price they want for their standard nips. But maybe one day I may try these.
Mister Worker no longer ships any Knipex to the US anymore. And from what I have seen many European Knipex dealers won't ship Knipex to the US either. For a prev item I had to source them from Japan. I suspect that Knipex won't allow them to anymore cause in many cases it was cheaper to buy from Mister Worker with the price of international shipping than to buy here. Knipex prices have gone up a lot here in the past years. I heard that in EU prices for Knipex are still pretty reasonable.

These seem to have reached U.K. and European dealers now, and one electrician friend already has a pair.
Gut feeling is that you will have to be a little careful what gauge of wire you cut, although they will handle most single core wire commonly found in domestic installations.
The reality of course, is that they are not really intended for that, but rather for all the other things that need cutting, from cable ties to sleeving, and I think Knipex have got these exactly right.
Price in the U.K. is about £25 ($33) without the plastic sheath, and a little more with, but I suspect that will creep down.
Note that one of the versions available is stainless steel, and they are charging no premium for these. That’s an attractive option.
If you are in the U.S. and want a pair, I wouldn’t pay any sort of premium, as I would be very surprised if Knipex don’t offer them there very soon.

They look very nice from a shove in your pouch aspect but I need to start drawing the line at tool purchases.
I already have 2-3 small flush cuts stored in specific termination kits I have made up and am literally running out of room to store stuff.

FWIW it looks like Amazon Germany will ship these to the US (they also have the version with the sheath). But adding shipping and duties they are getting pricy.

It’s worth noting that the stainless model can handle solid core copper up to 1.3mm diameter, but the regular steel can handle 1.6mm.
To put that into perspective, in the U.K. that could handle single core for lighting circuits, but not for sockets. In the U.S, with 110V, I suspect not even the lighting circuits.
Nevertheless, given how I think these will be used, that’s fairly irrelevant, and it’s the stainless models that would interest me.

Reminds me of a short video clip their product manager did a while back, it went something like "do me a favour" - use the XL Super Knips for cable ties except the smallest ones.
Jokes on you they don’t warranty stuff from what I hear. They say any damage is from normal use and not covered.
Realistically, if you manufacture flush cuts… you should not warranty them.
The average pair of flush cuts lasts until someone cuts something that they never should have cut with them.
How and why could or would you warranty for that.

This will never happen. That would be a totally different tool. They, also, would not make it look like flush cuts.
There are much better options for steel wire. Wire rope cutters, aircraft cable cutters…
I've had such good luck with the Xcelite flush cutters I don't have much interest in these Knipex. I used to buy the small Klein flush cutters for the guys at the shop but they didn't hold up well at all. Klein was very good about replacing them though.

Knipex said USA distributors are anticipating to have these available in August. Pre-orders are likely, so watch for listings to start appearing soon.

That is ******** and it would be good if you spoke from experience making such accusations and not simply relaying some internet rumors - by people who might or might not have had a warranty claim denied.

?? They already make ones that look like their regular flush cutters, just more capable. Sometimes you can’t fit those other tools into a tight space, or don’t want the size or weight. And they Super Knips are less likely to be damaged by someone else misusing them.
Unfortunately these are no longer made in the USA. I sort of wonder if Xuron was actually making this style of precision cutter and plier for other brands, and those brands have switched suppliers.

There are too many reports of denied warranty claims from Knipex to dismiss them all. Maybe some are fake or embellished but certainly not all.
I wouldn’t know. My Xcelite cutters are USA made and have black handles and are at least 15 years old. Went to buy another set in the past couple years and went with Klein when I saw the Xcelites were no longer American made.
Just assumed since xcelite has been absorbed by a mega corp they do what they do. Keep the name and move manufacturing over seas.
