Just broke almost every tip of my craftsman snap ring pliers. Done with them

Holset turbo compressor snap ring is no joke. Time for an upgrade
need a stout 90 degree for this one

Langs kit is hard to passup for $80.

but seems like people swear by Knipex snap rings, plus I like the quality over a stamped sheet metal plier.

Those are really nice - I have the set of eight, with forged tips. The problem, is that those are not going to be big enough. Those sets contain pliers with tip diameters of 0.050" and 0.070". I did a bit of searching online - I found a recommendation on a forum for pliers for that turbo ring, Matco pliers with 0.120" dia. tips. If you can, get a measurement on the holes, just for confirmation.

If you can wait, I would order these from Amazon.de: https://www.amazon.de/Sicherungsringzange-Innenringe-Bohrungen-atramentiert-Kunststoff/dp/B001E62764/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=44+21+j41+sicherungsringzange&qid=1564124579&s=gateway&sr=8-1

Here's the link to the Knipex site: https://www.knipex.com/index.php?id=1216&L=1&page=art_detail&parentID=1365&groupID=1453&artID=1694

The tips are 0.125" diameter and they're 12" long. With shipping to the states, I'm showing $22.11, which is ridiculously cheap. You can also get them at Zoro for $38 and change.

The two different designs that you linked are inserted tips vs. forged tips. The inserted ones are just that - hardened steel inserted and crimped into forged tips. Knipex alleges they'll last 10x longer than forged, but the forged ones will allow greater access to tight spots - you can look at close ups of the tips and see that.

As far as a set of the smaller ones, I ordered the 8pc forged Knipex from Amazon.de for $100 w/shipping, but I don't see any sellers shipping to USA right now. What you might do, is look at Gedore; they've gotten good reviews here and they're cheaper - this set will run a little over $80 delivered: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B002RA7UYK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3JWKAKR8XB7XF&psc=1

Also, Astro makes some large snap ring pliers, probably Taiwan COO.

Don't forget about Stride-Imperial. They are very stout pliers. People like to say that they are the same as Lang but that's not the case at all. They make their own pliers.

I used and own taiwan forged pliers and they proved pretty good in strength if use right size and want 11" pliers or bigger on those clips.
The Gedore pliers is a cracking deal, they better than the knipex in my opinion, hold on clips well and don't slip same as many cheaper options, very likely pull trigger on a set of those myself .

Let us know how the story ends.

I was kinda looking for an excuse to upgrade to some nicer tools and get a set (sounds like they won't work). It's not something I use often, otherwise I'd be more reluctant to get the proper tool. Not sure I'll buy the specific pliers, make do with what I have, or try to find a snap ring like I pictured (can be removed with tongue and groove pliers).

Tried my buddies Matcos, and got on the truck. Better than my craftsman but not easy.

I've heard of guys welding some boogers on the ring to grab with tongue and groove pliers as well. I've also seen where guys heat up some cheap needle nose, bend them in a 90, and grind down the tips to fit. :pimpflash

Just buy the cheaper forged no name 9" and 11" 4pc sets off ebay or just the single 90deg that you require.
Pretty much style of knipex but low price, do sell individual as well but when I picked them up sets so cheap it worth having as extra tooling options.
I have 7" 9" and 11" seta and they all pretty decent, 7" set don't hold in clip holes as well as 15 to 20 buck brand pliers but they work, 9 and 11" pretty stout .
I have CK sets that pretty nice but Gedore are nice and price acceptable if want that extra quality .
