Knipex Snap Ring Plies??

Guys in my other post I had ask about snap ring pliers which receive lot of good answers. While I really can't justify top on the line but I sure would like to know more and maybe purchase just one or two Knipex which is what someone had suggested. So during googling Knipex I see there are two different kinds. Precision and Standard,so between these two what is difference? In my other post someone had posted that he did not care for the precision model. So I guess there is a difference between the two,I just want this to be a one time purchase with no mistakes.
I did give purchasing from Germany but during check out keep saying can't ship to the address so its a no go there

The Precision pliers have pressed in tips instead of having the pliers machined down or "turned" to make the tips. Knipex says the Precision tips last 10 times longer than standard turned tips.

don't know if you (or others) saw the suggestion in the other thread. Look carefully at what tip diameters are offered. Make sure you get .038 & .047 diameter as well as the bigger .070 & .090. I almost made the mistake of buying the Harbor Freight set until I notice the tip size. Most of the snap rings I run into are smaller sizes.

I ended up buying a Sunex kit with 10 or so different sized pliers (with different sized tips). I was tired of using the right tool for the wrong job. Ended up buying that kit and haven’t looked back since. I don’t think I’ve run into a snap ring I wasn’t able to get out/off with that kit.

I’d been using pliers with interchangeable heads on them. For the first while when I started wrenching for a living, they would get me out of a jam. Sometimes, they’d cause me more grief than having the proper pliers to begin with.

'Precision' is a bit misleading. I think 'heavy duty' would be a more appropriate name. The Precision pliers have thicker jaws to accommodate the push in tips which means they obscure your view a bit making them slightly harder to use with precision. Bothers some people and not others.

Basic model is made from one piece , while precision have inserted tips. Precision have square profile, basic round. Also, they have two type of precision pliers, they differ in material of tips and in price.

Go with the standard ones - the precision ones can have access issues due to the diameter of the forging that the tips are pressed into.

I just checked and confirmed - they're not shipping the Knipex set to the USA anymore. The Gedore set (Gedore S 8008 Pliers Set) are probably just as good - made in Austria, good reviews here on GJ, and cheaper than the Knipex, at $86 delivered. That will give you internal and external, straight and right angle, in 0.050 and 0.070 tips.

I have the Knipex precision/piano wire tips. In the .04" tip size the Knipex is .10" x .10" nearest the tip. The same size Milbar/Lang is .10" x .09". I don't see this as a problem, and have never had an issue with access with the Knipex. Maybe there's a significant difference in larger sizes? The knipex does increase in size as it moves away from the tip, but that has nothing to do with the piano wire design.

I have many of the standard/regular style knipex snap ring pliers (both internal and external) and they work well in daily use as a tech.

You might also look at Wiha - I believe these are made in Vietnam, but I've heard that the quality control is quite good. Four pair, straight tips, internal and external, 0.050 and 0.070 tips, for about $10 USD each.
