I was looking at getting some knipex cobras and ran accross the NWS Quattro grip water pump pliers. I like the heads on the NWS a little better but everything else on the knipex better.

So what say you?

Id say Knipex because they are easier to purchase/warranty and can be picked up locally.

I have seen knipex on matco trucks and I know you can warranty them like that but they usually cost almost double there.

If you get knipex stuff elsewhere is there some sort of warranty? I didnt think there was?

I think you can warranty the models sears carries at sears, but I don't know about any other models.

That said, they're both great tools. The NWS kind of have a "psychedelic basketball shoe" look to the grips, but they are still very nice.

If you do decide to go with NWS you will not have to worry about the warranty aspect it is very easily done. you wouldn't even have to send the defective tool back just a picture showing the defect.

Hi Ash,

I emailed you a couple questions via the form on your website, just though I'd give you a heads up. :)

edit: NVM, you already responded

The NWS tools have some good points about them for sure, longer grips, less play, more aggressive teeth. It looks like their catalog is a bit less extensive than Knipex,

Knipex seems to have a few more tool options that I like...

Real life? What exactly does that mean? You can order the NWS from Ash and have it in a few days. I own both brands and I personally prefer the NWS. That said, I don't think anyone would be disappointed in either brand.

I assume he means they are readily available. As in you can get them without having to wait a couple days.

I have used my Knipex pliers professionally for a while now. Handiest thing in my coveralls next to my 8" Blue Crescent and Knipex side cutters.

Knipex is great stuff.. hard to beat. I have quite a few of them and not a single one has ever let me down, gone dull, gotten lose or lost grip.

Both are top shelf brands IMHO and you can't go wrong with either of them but I have to admit I'm partial to NWS. haven't had to warranty either so I can't comment on that part.

Oh, I see. I have never purchased things on that basis. You can't get much more readily available than Harbor Freight. I suggest you get all your tools there or maybe in the hardware aisle at the grocery store so you won't have to make an extra trip.

Troll elsewhere. Your comment is worthless.

I never said one should buy on those basis. I was rephrasing a previous posters comment.

And how is HF more convinient then say, Sears?

Happy new year!

It means I can go to Lowes, Sears or possibly True Value and get a pair. I prefer handling a tool before buying.

I noticed some sharp edges left from the forge on a pair of Knipex I was considering at Sears a week or so ago. I haven't personally seen any NWS, but I think the average pair of Knipex are hyped a bit more than they deserve to be honest.

In three years of selling N.W.S, i have yet to warranty anything. The range may not be as broad as Knipex, but the quality (in my opinion) is better.

I bought my first pair of Cobras from Matco, I love em & still have them after the abuse it went through. Don't work on cars anymore but since then I got a new set of Cobras which have slight improvements over my first Cobras.

Haven't used the NWS pump pliers but going off appearance only I like the Knipex better. None of my Knipex stuff has ever failed me. But many of the other NWS stuff do look nice. Think I need to try some, starting with their cutters.

I have both and there is not much between them and I would highly recommend either - so pick the colour or price you like best!

I have both. I love the ergo combi pistol grips. And I love my knipex electrician needlenose. Each have their suit but I find myself with with more knipex due to it being locally purchased at lowes or sears. I am looking to add more to the NWS end.

I have never had any real problem with either, but prefer NWS based on the few products I have.

From my experience, I would say that NWS is one step above in finish, but in quality I would rate them both as top products. Haven't tried NWS water pump pliers, but I'm very happy with my Cobras!

I have them both...started with Kobalt, then moved onto Knipex when Lowes had them at drastically reduced prices, then decided to give NWS a shot and now I'm hooked. I prefer NWS for perhaps "silly" reasons like the finish and coloring, but haven't been at all displeased with my Knipex either. Oddly enough, I actually prefer my Knipex needle nose to my NWS needle nose.

I do wish, however, that NWS's lineup was as comprehensive as Knipex...but I guess this gives me an excuse to continue to expand my assortment with both brands!
