I have several knotted wire brushes that were included in various auction boxes. The only thing I use wire brushes for is rust removal. What is the purpose of the knotted wire?

You end up looking less like a porkypine after using them with your spinny thing.

Send them to me, I use them on a weekly basis for everything that a typical wire cup brush won't remove, but stuff not so severe that I need a flapper disk or grinding wheel. I have found a knotted wire wheel to be more aggressive then a cup.

They will only send 1 or 2 wires into your eyeball as apposed to 4 into your eye and 1 into your brain.

I never found the wire brushes to be particularly effective at rust removal. They are also fairly dangerous and will kick back and take a chunk out of you given half a chance.

3M makes 4.5" plastic bristle disks under the Scotch-Brite brand. The plastic bristles are impregnated with abrasive and slowly wear away. The green 50 grit ones do wonders on rust.

Which reminds me—my grill is in serious need of derusting and paint.

This is true. I can still feel the pain when one jumped off of something I was grinding and grabbed the T-shirt I was wearing. 10,000 rpm to zero in about 5 revolutions, and a pretty good wire brush mark on my belly!

Your never going to beable to clean inside corners for long, diamond plate or the pit holes from rust with one of those brillow pad discs.
