I bought this set also a few weeks ago for $80. I really like it, although it needs larger wrenchs added to it IMO, it has way to many small wrenches. I really like the 72th ratchets also. Everything was made in Taiwan and seems to be good quality. The socket sizes are laser printed, which will degrade over time. I found it odd that only half the sockets snap into the toolbox ( why not all of them or none?). For the price I think it's a great road kit or even starter kit. I've had good luck with Kobalt hand tools made in Taiwan. I'll wear these out and save my USA craftsman, SK and Proto sets. ;)

I wish they would list out in detail what it all contains. I guess I'll swing by Lowe's tomorrow to check it out in person. Would make a nice emergency tool kit to store in the trunk of the car.

The 1/4 and 3/8 Sockets are both 6 and 12 points, and both have good selection of 12 point deep well sockets The 1/2 Sockets are 12 point only, and no deep well sockets. There is actually a fairly good selection of wrenches, 8-13mm and 1/4-5/8", but missing the 5/16" 9/16" and 11 mm wrenchs. Will definitely need to add additional wrenches.

The box is also quite sturdy and has a nice empty drawer on the bottom for adding additional tools. Most all other sets I have seen with plastic cases have little or no storage space for more tools.

I thought these kits were all China now? I was given this set several years ago (Taiwan version not the even older USA version) and have been very impressed with it honestly. I've used it a lot (not professionally) and had no issues whatsoever. I added a few wrenches to the empty drawer and a couple pairs of pliers. Grab some screwdrivers (I don't care for the bits generally) and it's the perfect box to grab on the go.

One note for people wanting to throw it in their trunk, most of the stuff rattles out fairly quickly. If that's an issue for you then I'd either consider an alternate set or making some plans for how you want to work with that if that's your primary concern here.

That's a lot of tools for $80 . . . nice score OP.

Got similar Craftsman set couple years ago when last of Made in USA was being cleared out.

Actually like the color coding that Kobalt does for MM versus SAE sockets.

The Craftsman 230-pc kit is also on sale for $90, but you get $10.90 back in points...so $80 in reality. The Kobalt ratchets are much better IMO, but the Cman's case is much better suited for travel, or an on-the-go kit...

I passed on this deal, too many 12 point sockets in the set. Waiting for the small Kobalt air compressor to go on sale again.

It's hard to find a set with 6 point sockets in 1/2". The only one that comes to mind is the DeWalt 204 Piece Mechanics Set, but it's no longer available. Best bet is to just buy a separate set of 1/2" deep well impact sockets.

I seen that set in store and it's Made in China. The 227pc is Taiwan made. What was the price on the 250pc set ? It's weird that they would use 2 different suppliers . Seems like they are shifting towards the China supplier for most stuff now.

I bought the 227 piece kit and am returning it. There is so many filler items in the kit that I already have/don't need. And I really didn't like the etching of the socket size on the sockets. It is very hard to see, and my eyes are good. There is no size stamped into the socket itself. I could see this wearing etching wearing off over time.

I am going over to Amazon to purchase a couple socket sets from TEKTON and SUNNEX. Both get great reviews for their set and are on sale for the holidays.

It looks like the stanley sets are all 6 point and with few fillers, to give you more options. I haven't seen any incredible sales though...

Those hex keys are fillers, was never enticed seeing them factored into the piece-count. However, very few tools and toolsets sold by Lowes are Made in Taiwan nowadays, but I wouldn't underestimate all of their Made in China Kobalt-branded tools though. They seem to just get the job done, simply pay no mind to how the metal was forged, haha.
