Kobalt 30 gallon compressor

I've been looking around at compressors and currently can only support 110v. I found a 30 gallon oiled unit at Lowe's that says it has dual voltage capabilities? Does anyone know how this works or if it improves the CFM rating? It has enough SCFM to handle what I'm going to be using it for but if I could plug it up to a larger circuit later when I get the shop I want that would seal the deal for me.

I was also looking at the IR garage mate, did some searching on these forums and haven't found anyone talking about this dual voltage idea so far.

can you post a link to lowe's website showing the compressor - that would probably help. i'm currently struggling with a 110v ~30hp 'husky pro' belt / oil compressor and can't wait to get a much higher capacity 220v unit. my husky has been very reliable, relatively quiet, and works as advertised. that said, running a grinder/saw/drill/blast cabinet is an exercise in frustration - it just cannot deliver the necessary volume of air for very long.

i do remember seeing a similar kobalt unit that actually looked to have slightly better specs, but don't have 1st hand experience with it.

1) what tools do you want to run, and 2) is there any scenario where you might want to run a saw/grinder/drill/blast cabinet?

IMO, to fill tires or run an impact / ratchet, the belt driven and oil lubed 110v compressors work fine. to run a wider range of tools, their pumps just do not have the capacity. if you don't mind 3 minutes of wait to 1 minute of work, it might be acceptable. that ratio gets real old, real quick, when you've got stuff to get done.

Mostly this compressor would be used for tires, impact, and possibly a ratchet or to briefly blow off dubris. If at some point I expand and get a bigger shop then maybe I'll upgrade, just didn't understand the voltage info for this compressor:

Apparently you can swap power cords but it won't run any faster. Just draw less amps. FYI check out Northern Tool the sell the same compressor for $299. You'll be fine doing what you want with that unit, I do the same with a 25 gal craftsman.

I saw the one on northern tool but with the shipping it makes it less of a deal. Plus I think the northern tool ones are refurb. Man why can't Northern Tool open a store here, it would save me a lot of money lol. Anyone wunna bring me a compressor?

I was about to get this compressor but opted for the husky (campbell hausfeld) at home depot. the kobalt has a higher PSI rating but the husky has higher everything else.

Hooked everything up and I am quite pleased with the husky.

I don't think the kobalt is worth the $429 price tag they have at the store when it USED to be $379.... so that's why I went with the husky. Plus specs overall are very very similar.

Husky Model: vt6314, looks like HD upped the price to 416 on their site but in the store it should be 379...

Lowes claims for have a 3 year warranty and I found this powermate at HD: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc...splay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053 but it only shows a 2 year warranty. No doubt those are the exact same compressor because the descriptions are almost word for word spot on. I may have to print those off and see what I can get the stores here to do for me.

I own the 25 gallon one it's been good to me for the past 3-ish years (crazy to think it's been that long).

That is if you like horizontal compressors. I did...but that Kobalt is nice. Just make sure to use a Movers Coupon to save 10%. Also word is they will take HF's 20% off coupon as well.

DON'T GO BY THE CFM SPECS!!! They are irrelevant. You need storage with this type of compressor, get the 30 gallon 155 psi one over the Husky 135 psi HANDS DOWN.

I would get the Powermate for $383-10% = $345 (is that possible? I don't know)

2 year vs. 3 year, how much will you be using it? Chances are if it makes it 1 year or 2 years it will keep going and going. Seriously. I wouldn't pay an extra $50 for 1 more year warranty, that is just me though.

If you can't do movers coupon on online orders, then Lowes $429 - 10% = $386

+1 on all accounts. Has served my needs (above what you stated).

Mover's coupons are 10% off and can be bought on eBay for pennies. I usually buy a stack of 10-20 every few months to have around. I recoup the $8 they cost me with the first purchase usually.

Where is the movers coupon?

Sign up online on Lowes.com or buy a bunch on ebay for like $5. Also Lowes takes HD Movers coupons* and HD sends them out online as well thru email almost immediately after signing up.
