Kobalt 300-Piece Mechanic's Tool Set at $149

During BF I bought the Husky’s $99 tool set but felt that I didn’t need it and it didn’t have as many wrenches as I wished. I was already decided return the set, use what tools I already have and buy wrenches separately, but this shows up. Although this set is missing a size here and there, you could easily find the missing size if you must have it. Original price is $399, and then went to $199. At $149, I think I’ll ****** it up.

That looks like some pretty good value there. I haven’t used the Kobalt stuff and I don’t know much about it, but it seems like it would cover you for a lot of things.

One thing bothers me — the shadowing layout wastes a TON of space. The long socket panel is the worst. Is there some kind of explanation for this layout?

What wrench sizes does the Husky not have that this does? The Husky online specification of "20 wrenches" for the kit that was $99 is wrong as there are 30 wrenches in the kit meaning the Kobalt has 8 more if the specs on it are correct. The socket counts are close and besides a few small items, it mainly looks like you're paying for the foam trays. I like the idea of those foam trays, but they waste a ton of drawer space. That may not be an issue for a lot of people though if this kit comprises the majority of their tool set though. If you have a toolbox you're planning on putting it in, be sure to measure the drawers to make sure it fits first.

Probably because they would get returns complaining of missing pieces. I don't like the foam organizer, but even throwing that stuff away this is a decent price.

The answer to your question is:
- The Husky has 5/16-in, 11/32-in, 9/16-in, 7/8-in which are not in the Kobalt.
- The Kobalt has 8mm and 19mm which are not in the Husky.

I may also copy these comments and info to the thread at some point. I wanted to get them in a good image store where the comparison tables will be nice and crisp. Long story short, it looks like the main things you are getting with the Kobalt set that you don’t get in the Husky set are adapters, extensions and about 20 six point half inch drive sockets.

its because sets like this are designed for n00bs who buy a tool box to put each one of these trays in and they use it once a year. No one in their right mind who uses tools on a regular basis would ever consider keeping that tray lol
