I would agree that they are good for the money. I'm not tossing the Channellocks in favor of them but what do you want for $10. They are in the set in my trailer.

I've got a set that came with a bonus 6'' adjustable wrench.

Wouldn't pay full price, but for $2/piece they can't be beat

Just curious if those calling them junk have actually used them, or just considering them junk b.c of brand c.o.o., etc.

I only make my statement b/c I have a couple pair of these Kobalt pliers that I got through a gift exchange w/work and for what I've thrown at them...I've been impressed, especially considering how much one might wind up paying for them.

I would never give up my NWS, Knipex, Channellock, etc. but I wouldn't consider them junk b/c they've definitely held up to everything I've used them for over the past two years or so. Cutting edges still sharp on the diagonal cutters, teeth on the slip joint still sharp, etc.

I have the older set of these and they have held up great. I received them as a stocking stuffer about four years ago. I use them on my trucks and cars. I've even used them to demo and then remodel two bathrooms. This includes redoing the whole electrical portion of the remod. They definitely come in handy for the homeowner.
