Kobalt 80 volt chain saw - anyone have one?

I was at Lowes earlier today, and this saw caught my eye. Anyone ever use one?

There was a thread here where someone stated the Ryobi 40V weedeater would run longer than the Kobalt 80V. Last time I searched I couldn't find the exact thread but I remember it.

I know this is not the chainsaw and I don't know if it's a reflection of the 80V line overall.

I could see it if you're committing to a cordless outdoor tool line, maybe. On its own... $300 for a junk saw (it would be a POS if it had an engine) and a spare battery (which I'm sure you'll need to do much work) is $180? You're nuckin' futs... you can nearly buy a Stihl 261 with that money, and what it costs in gas & any repairs, the cordless would cost you double in replacing batteries.

I guess it works if you have a small lot, and could buy the matching trimmer, blower, edger, whatever, and only need 1 or 2 batteries because you're not using anything for long. I take care of my gas tools and they fire up just fine when I need them, I'd rather spend more now and not be buying a $150-200 battery (or chucking it for a new tool) at 4 or 5 years with relatively little use.

I have the Greenworks version. Great saw. It's really nice to not need to listen to a saw idle between cuts and it easily has the power to handle mid-sized jobs. The only annoyance is the system auto-shuts off at 15sec, so you seem to need to hit the power switch before many cuts.

Do you by chance have a greenworks 80v mower as well?

I am looking at 80V systems for my outdoor tool needs and want to hear about all brands. I've been reading up on Greenworks and they seem to have the best overall offering and reliability.

It weighs half a lb more than a 372XP, and the only other spec they publish is this "1 charge lasts for up to 150 cuts in 4-in x 4-in pressure-treated lumber"

A chainsaw for those fine finishing cuts in your 4x4 deck posts....yep, all 150 of them.

The fact that they tout 4x4's as their test medium tells me to run, not walk to the local Stihl dealer and buy a real chainsaw.

Are you set on an 80V system?

I have given consideration to the EGO line of 56V products.

The Milwaukee stuff has gotten great reviews. I'd expect a chainsaw to follow soon.. but the dewalt 40v is suppose to be a great saw, even better than the 60v..

Echo has a cordless line also, including a mower.. ego is suppose to have some good cordless stuff too.

I don't believe 150 cuts. Manufacturers in general are misleading with this sort of figure. No experience with Kobalt.

For that kind of money you could buy a real decent Stihl saw and never have to worry if your chainsaw is junk

The provided chain is terrible not in quality but pitch/design. There's an Oregon bar & chain that's been linked here before which is much more aggressive and makes the saw perform MUCH better and still great battery life. $20 or less on Amazon when it's in stock.....last time I looked seems it floats from in stock to "discontinued" to back in stock.
