I have been thinking about picking up a bit ratchet, saw this set at Lowe's on clearance. Part # 85232, 24 pc set. It is double ended, 1/4 and 5/16, with a slight offset. Made in Taiwan. They have selectors.
Yay or nay? Or waste of $10?
I had one of these Kobalt bit ratchet sets 35 pc. for $10 on sale. Ratchet started skipping right away. Kept the case and bits and added the much better VIM tools HBR5 bit ratchet. Can get that on Amazon, Tooltopia, etc. http://amzn.to/2FDVkJu
I bought the 35pc set. It's the same ratchet as the one in the 24pc, haven't used it much but it's nice to have a little case with a small range of bits and sockets ready to go. It's fine tooth, not terrible for the money
I got one for Christmas, only used it once and it worked great. It is great for getting into tight places where nothing else fits. Not something I would put a lot of torque on.
Thanks for the replies, guys. This won't be a heavy use tool, but there have been a couple times I've had to bust out the offset screwdrivers for hard to reach screws. Hopefully this will help make life easier.
The Kobalt set is my least favorite and the Wera and Sunex are on even ground for me. The Sunex set is almost 2x the price, but I grab it more often then not when needed. I do like the Wera also, but very pricey for what it is.
I bought one of each of those kits. Gave a few as gifts. I remember a few years ago they were something like $5 each for a while.
I just recently used one of them for the first time. Had to take a broken transformer out of a subwoofer and nothing would give me the combination of leverage and access to the screw heads. Still took me over an hour to take two nuts off two screws with several iterations of extensions u joints and all the rest. Once I opened this kit and had a long enough handle to keep the bit in the screw head it was still a few minutes working on it but I got it out without much effort.
I also do have the Titan/Klutch bit ratchet and it's nice and all but it's not big enough to really get a good grip on anything so it's basically a palm ratchet for me at least. I also have the Vim which is a little nicer, but that one is in a different box, but also didn't help with that job anyway. These kits are worth their real estate in my toolbox. Haven't used it since but you can't doubt it was the right tool for the job if only once.
