Kobalt compressors?

Hey everyone,

I thought I had my heart set on an Ingersoll Rand 60gal unit for around $900. But then I got to looking at Kobalt's 80gal units at Lowes which were $200 less. A little research led me to believe that the Kobalt compressors are made by Coleman or Campbell Hausfeld.

Anyone know anything about why I SHOULDN'T get this brand and go with the IR?

The same question for Coleman or CH labeled units too. I had a 26gal CH and used the **** out of it for like 5 years, blasting, sanding, painting until it died.

I must've read every thread here on compressors and where they're made, etc. I know what my budget is...just trying to get the best for that amount.

The 60 gal unit is Coleman-Powermate. I'd expect the 80 gal is the same. Look at the bung on the side of the tank and it will say Powermate.

So Colemans, CHs, Kobalts are OK solutions for a budget? I rethought my needs and determined I won't be doing much more blasting, sanding, or painting.

There was an 80gal Kobalt with about 12cfm at 90psi somewhere on the net...but if the Harbor Freight US General is the same parts for $200 less, I may go that route.

I will probably get flamed for it but you might look into Puma brand compressors if you are on a budget. (yea I know IR, Quincy, etc. yes it would be nice!) :pimpflash

About the Puma compressors: I know a guy who runs a tool store and services all brands of air compressor. He sells Puma compressors new and doesn't even stock parts for them... claims he's never needed any.

Thanks for the links and suggestion on Puma. The HD one is lower output at 90psi vs the Lowes one (which aint on the website anymore!).

I'm gonna swing by Harbor Freight and take a look at the US Generals.

I know, I know it's a low-budget compressor, but I still want the best one!
