Friend's dad stopped by yesterday and mentioned that he'd got me something that was on sale at Lowe's but forgot to bring it. Apparently they had a 3/8" ratchet and a couple sockets on sale for $10, reason he picked it up was because it was a pawlless ratchet (I assume one of those roller type deals.) He figured I'd enjoy playing with it and that it might actually be handy in tight spaces. (he's definitely right on the first <G>)

So, anyone seen this yet? I haven't actually laid hands on it so I can't say if it actually has less backlash than one of my old Williams DP ratchets or a Dual 80 or something like that, but am kinda anxious now.

Might be this one?

but he didn't say anything about a thumbwheel or the sockets being splines... and he said it was actually on display in the store.

Thats the one, the palm ratchet is included if you buy it online. The sockets are a combo of sae and metric and spline.

I;d love to see those ratchets sold as singles.

On the other hand I need more sockets, especially Koblat sockets , like I need a swift kick in the ballsack.
Which for the daft means "Not very much." LOL

I have high expectations.

I picked one up for <$10. I'm actually pretty impressed. It'll engage with almost impercetable back swing.

The head is a little thick and guys have indicated that lack of audible clicks can eliminate critical feedback on what the fastener is doing.

IMHO it's a "no brainer" to buy at <$10. It won't become my go to ratchet but if I ever have a need for a ratchet for tight clearance it'll have earned it's keep.

I got one for christmas. I actually like it a lot. I am a little worried about the lack of feedback (no audible clicks on free rotation) but we'll see. I gave the sockets away.

I like the regular Kobalt stuff like sockets and ratchets. The endcap gadget stuff has never worked out for me.

I'm lukewarm on their sockets... but the only ones I have are 1/2" drive 12 points, so they are the ones that get abused when I need to hammer one on etc. I never use them for general work. The ratchets I've had I generally liked, main complaint is they're heavy compared to Snap-On or old Williams (which are my go-tos) but they work fine and I like the snap-on style handle better than knurled.

I'm kinda curious now to get my grubby paws on this one. Wonder if they'll do some in other drive sizes? Only gearless I've used before were the little push through stubbies, never had the opportunity to try a regular sized one. Snap-On F-Zero is a little out of my price range :)

There is only a 3/8s one. They do have a 1/4 palm ratchet which is gearless for $10

I got it on sale too cause I had a gift card, its actually pretty neat and the sockets it came with are universal ones. To me it was definitely worth the $10.

Yeah, my Lowes had them on clearance for like $9 for the ratchet and spline socket combo.

I didn't have either a gearless ratchet or any spline sockets, so I paid the $9 mostly out of curiosity.

So far, they've been in my box for about a month, not used once. :dunno:

But that one day when you need it, that $9 will never be so well spent

A member here did a review on those and they got an extremely good review. The sockets were sub-par though. I saw the set at lowes for 9.99. May sneak in there one day soon...

I picked it up for $9. I've made a point to use it a couple of times. It does feel a little strange with no clicks. The sockets I never even took them off the rack. In fact I tossed them in my Grandmother's garage today. Maybe they will help someone in a jam.

Looked s*itty to me so I didn't pick it up. No fan of spline even though the price is right. I'm not being negative I buy a ton of kobalt stuff this is just not great even for chinese mfg kobalt. But spline are good to have if you run into e-torx sockets and are too cheap to buy a pro set...I mean, they'll work.

Who knows?
mrborohachi,

I don't think it has any teeth whatsoever. If I'm not mistaken it has a series of rollers that expand against the inner wall once you apply any torque.

Someone correct me if I'm mistaken please.
