I looked at these Sunday night in my local store. The metrics are almost sold out, which was the set I was considering. ALL the sets in the display, both SAE and metric, the largest two sizes had the bits pressed in at an angle. I would the same machine in Chaiwan was used to assemble the sockets, and screwed them all up. I passed on them for this reason, other than that the chrome seemed nice and they were generally decent quality from a visual inspection.

So with mine being China, is this ANOTHER Kobalt item that switched COOs? They're going to be the same as Craftsman and Husky soon.

...and Harbor Freight is moving more and more things from China to Taiwan. This just seems ***-backwards.

Looks like all the new stock is china. I was lucky to find both and take a pic. the etching and chrome is definitely nicer on the Taiwan. the hex part looks to be cut different as well. Taiwan on the left, China on the right...

Picked up a Taiwanese set. The store had both ROC and at the back of the rack a last Taiwan set. The Taiwan set looks a lot nicer.
I checked each socket and didn't seen any problems.

Only China left at Mentor and Eastlake OH stores. Still got a pair though. Thought maybe I'll pass by another Lowes sometime soon and be able to swap out in the near future.

I used the SAE ones on my 1/4" impact (with a 3/8 adapter) to break loose some lightly rusted cap bolts and they worked flawlessly. I went back and bought the metric ones…pretty nice for the $$. My Lowes had the Taiwanese ones.

I know its not the exact same thing but I would avoid the kobalt long hex sockets with the ball end. I picked up a 5mm and broke the ball off the first time I used it. It is weak metal. The fastener was barely past snug. I am unsure of coo of the one I purchased.

Don't know about that. I used one to torque socket caps on my supercharger and it passed that test but it was only 18 ft/lbs. I won't see much past that with hex on what I work on. Bring it back to lowe's bro.:lol:
