My new workshop will be built in a couple months and I need a new/larger toolbox. My basic craftsman has served me well and will still be used but I want an upgrade. I have set a budget of $2000, but I could move a little if I had to. The front runner right now is:

I would love a good reivew of the box from someone who has it. I have read about the HF boxes on here, and plan to give them a look in person. I would love a Snap-on I just dont have the budget with building the shop. I want to avoid wanting an upgrade in a year or two based on size or quality. I did a search, but didn't find this exact box mentioned on here.

In the only town in Pennsylvania, Bloomsburg.
Have the 53" box, far superior to the Craftsman, particularly the stiffer draws. The only fault I give it is the top shelf has less support then I liked, as I loaded it up with sockets (every square inch) and the weight would sage the shelf slightly. I added a support (5/4 wood, with tin plate on both weight bearing edges) between the lower draw support and the shelf, now the top shelf is stiff, no sagging. Another very minor issue, when I removed some draws from the slides to add the support it was a bit tough to get the slides to release from the draws. This box is not light

I have the one with the fridge and wish I had the one with the 2 extra drawers. I have had it for a couple years and its been great.I use the fridge for storage of tools in cases. It is pretty well built for a big box store toolbox. I have it pretty well loaded and no issues to report. The bottom drawer is way over loaded and it still opens smooth. The top area with the lid has a ton of storage.

I'd check the used route for a truck brand box like the one NitroSun linked to. Or possibly an industrial cabinet.

I have found that stainless if pretty to look at and not so nice with finger prints all over it. If I had a stainless tool box, I'd end up covering it with stickers. I like my cheap-o ChinaMan 40" from Sears and the extra $$ to spend on other stuff.

I have Kobalt bottom box that is 42" wide and I really like it. Good quality box...but after seeing the HF 42 incher I wish I would have bought the HF and saved some cash. If I were you I would really consider the HF boxes.

I have one SS tool chest but will probably never buy another. All of the SS boxes I've seen (except truck brands) are only 18-20" deep. which I find to be a PITA. If I were you (or doing it again myself) I'd buy either the HF 56" top and bottom if you like Red, or the Masterforce 56 top and bottom from Menards if you prefer Blue, Green, or Black.

I would also take a tool-truck brand any day if I could find one in the same price range, but sadly they are few and far between.

I have that box and am happy with it. I've only had it about six months now. The only complaint I have is the radio is a waste of time. It is an automotive radio and whenever you un plug it you loose all the presets. The antennae doesn't work very well either. I broke mine the first day trying to adjust it. Very weak mounting.

I have the 42" x 18" model at work.. drawers still work nice and the wheels roll good. all in all its held up good. My only complaint is that the locks aren't that good ( both top and bottom box) so I had to add a full height drop bar to prevent the drawers from opening. I did notice the welds are pretty cheesy ( just spot welds) but nothing has let go yet.
I didn't want the one with the fridge because it takes up too much space, but now they have the big one with only a stereo and no fridge.. if only my wife would see my reasoning.

For a home shop, it would be a good buy.. the lock issue wouldn't be a problem, and it probably won't get rolled over rough floors.

Thanks for the input. I plan to go to HF while I'm off around Christmas and check out their boxes. I really don't want red, unless it has a snap-on logo, but I know that is a minor detail. I'll look at MF online- no Menard's in Texas or at least Houston. I check craigslist every day for truck brand boxes.
