I can add that I have seen the same at a family member's house that burned. Everything in a file cabinet survived, there were 3 metal file cabinets with 4 drawers each. Each file cabinet was filled to the top with paperwork. This happened a decade ago, but I remember a small amount of tan discoloration on the top of the papers closest to the front of the drawer. I was amazed. There was a small amount of water that got in from the firefighters putting out the fire, but nothing of consequence. So, in summary, I believe the metal box saved the day, and it can be any type of metal box. Location may have a lot to do with the chances of surviving the heat and flame of a fire as well. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Neat that the box protected it from the heat so well. Not so much surprised the tools were fine but loose paper is interesting. Guess as long as the flame doesnt hit it, its fine.

*cough* good is the superior search tool *cough* [emoji38]

I had a garage fire. My tool box was burned badly but the tools survived just fine. Even the torque wrenches!
