Kobalt Torque Wrench Repair

Help! I have a 1/2 inch drive Kobalt torque wrench that is missing one of the two small screws that attaches the ratcheting mechanism cover plate to the head of the ratchet. The plate came off, and I was only able to find one of the screws. They appear to be very specialized (uncommon) with a Phillips head. Any idea where I might search for such a specialized screw? I have had the wrench for about two years and seldom use it. I hate to scrap it for lack of one small missing screw. (The salesman I talked to at Lowes was of little help.)

You might try a hobby store if you can't get help from Kobalt. I'd silicone it or tape over it for now to make sure nothing gets in it.

Most likely it's a metric "cheese head" screw that can be replaced with a more common allen-head screw of the same size. Hobby shops that cater to the RC crowd--especially helicopters--are an excellent source for hard to find small screws.

I would suggest trying to take advantage of the "Hassle Free" warranty at your local Lowe's, I had a return and took notice of a printed sign facing the register which strongly encouraged taking any Kobalt item and replacing it with a new one from stock, with no questions asked/no hassle. It seems they take their hassle free warranty pretty seriously, at least at the Lowe's by me.
