While out Pawn shopping, I had the opportunity to buy a 170 piece set (NIB) for $80. I offered $50, so they called Lowes to check what price this set was selling for new.

The Pawn shop owner came back and said that Lowes was selling them for $160 and that they would not move off their price of $80. I said "thanks" and walked out.

If anyone is interested in these for $80 plus shipping let me know.

These were USA made KOBALTs, but I know they were not Williams made KOBALTs.

Does Danaher make them now?

FWIW the KOBALT site seems to be in the 21st Century now.

Dahaner now makes the sockets and ratchets (NOT the entire Kobalt line). I believe Great Neck, makes most of the Screwdrivers (last time I looked they had different sets).

All my Kobalt stuff (wrenches) is the old JH WIlliams, from when they closed them out.

Last time I was at lowes, i looked at the kobalt mechanics tools. Most were made in USA. Ratcheting wrenches and screwdrivers are made in the far east though. But all the sockets, ratchets, and accessories are made here.

Danaher/Kobalt tools are the same as Danaher/Allen tools. Or Danaher Craftsman Professional tools. Not bad tools....

Could you post a pic when you get a chance? I'm nosy.... :D

The sockets, ratchets and combo wrenches are USA made. The screwdrivers that look like Craftsman ones are Great Neck(Domestic and imported components). The other Kobalt screwdrivers plus pliers and adjustable wrenches are Asian made. Their Kobalt pliers aren't bad really. I bought a set of them( 6 different type of pliers) for the Science Olympiad team at my high school two years ago and they worked fine for the students.

On Amazon.com there are Great Neck tools for VERY low prices and wondered if they are on par with Craftsman, Husky, Kobalt? They had a 40 piece socket set including a 3/8 inch drive ratchet and breaker bar for ONLY $6.00!!! I am not sure you could even buy 40 pieces of chocolate for $6.00

There's a reason that they only cost $6.00....

Do you have a local Autozone? If you do, judge for yourself.

That was the last place that I looked at them and I only found one thing, that I would have used, as Harry Homeowner (not in a shop). The ratchets, looked to me, like the ones with the plastic guts (not just the lever like the cheaper Craftsman).

Some of the screwdrivers are USA made, or at least that's what the packaging said. I picked up a square driver plastic handled screwdriver, and the tool itself has no markings but the package did.

I wonder, who makes Kobalt breaker bars? They're USA made but have a full polish and nicer handle than Craftsman.

Danaher makes the breakers also. If you like them you may want to pick one up before much longer. I would guess they will be changing the design shortly. They changed the ratchets recently which I think is a downgrade so I wouldn't be surprised to see the breaker bars get the satin treatment in place of the chrome.
